The building is very old - Ming dynasty as it turns out (1368 to 1644) There is running water but no bathroom. He tells us that 80% of the houses in this area have no bathrooms. Ming houses didn't because human waste was considered too dirty to have within the walls of the courtyard. Now the houses are protected by the government and can't ...

... we got stuck in traffic. In the evening we took another wander through the streets of Beijing's tourist zone. It was a little bit like being in a theme park, with shops and restaurants all aimed at attracting the tourist buck. It was very clean, but seemed to lose a little bit of character. We found a restaurant serving good dumplings and tasty black beer, before heading back for another reasonably early evening. Our final morning we rose early, packed and checked out, dumping our ...

After a brief evening thunderstorm and a windy night, we awoke to beautiful clear skies. A relaxed 10 o'clock start today, commencing with a visit to the Temple of Heaven. After that we had a rickshaw ride around the Hutong old town which included an interesting visit to a local family for green tea and a conversation about their family and it's history. We then had a two-hour wait at the airport for our flight ...

... around campus to hand out information on these telecom companies to students. They always start with "are you a freshman?" ... and then I realize yes, yes I am a freshman. I'm getting too old for this! Anyway I do have a Chinese cell phone! We are kindly given a Chinese Mobile sim card during registration that has some money on it.

So the BLCU campus is pretty nice, and I walked around today to take pictures. Let me know what you think! :) Over and out for now!

    ... me, I'm an alien.

In the CBD and at tourist hot spots westerners are a common sight, but here in a small area of offices and shops, I was a strange human. The Chinese are not concerned with subtlety and therefore stare at you like theres not tomorrow. The Chinese are very very kind, don't get me wrong. I just don't think they know what to do with me and my foreign tongue. Certainly an experience I'll never forget... I love China :)
