We took a train trip after 3 incredible days in Beijing - packed with adventure and activity. The train was very modern and comfortable (2nd class) and travelled throughout the day so we could enjoy the Chinese country side. Watching the Chinese countryside was fascinating. Every inch of land was developed. We passed cities, villages, industry and agricultural areas. It was a challenge to figure out how the land allocation was done with the workers (it has been leased to worker groups as far ...
Shanghai, China ronschusterWednesday through Monday, October 10th through the 15th What a great town. I got off the train from Beijing, and before I even had a chance to look for a taxi, I passed a sign that pointed me to the Shanghai subway, the Metro. This, I knew, would take me to within a short cab ride of the Metropole Hotel, which I'd found mentioned in the Rough Guide. It was approaching 9 pm, I'd just spent 10 hours on a train, I was hungry, and I didn't have a hotel yet, so I didn't want to work too hard at ho...

... Beijing and happened to be in Shanghai that same weekend. San is from Hong Kong but is studying in Beijing and has some friends studying in Shanghai. From Windows, Ned, Ellie, San and I all headed off to meet her friends Grace and Bryan at yet another club/bar, called Richy's, which San claimed was the best club in all of Shanghai. Richy's was a whole lot of fun; Ellie and I danced for about three hours without rest until Ned and San dragged us off the ...
Shanghai, China lrgraves... and koi ponds tucked into private niches at every turn. It was pretty but a little overcrowded. I was just glad we were there on a Thursday and not a Saturday. Well, we did in fact do some shopping. We looked around for souvenirs in the countless stalls lining the bazaar. Jason bought a sword that he got a good price for but since he discovered he cannot ship it home (too big) it's become an inconvenience. However, don't worry. Swords are perfectly fine to bring on to trains and ...
Shanghai, Shanghai, China rachaelb... about 10:30 PM so that the next morning my body woke me up at 5:45 as it has everyday since. My body is like clockwork at this point, I only hope I can maintain some kind of rhythm so that I can wake up at 6:00, get a workout and some Chinese in before breakfast. Day two was spent exploring a bit with two of the girls that I came early with (myself and three others had different itineraries). I went back to Luxun park where there was an ...
Shanghai, Shanghai, China freephilipal... star hotel. The one I stayed is called the Chinatown Hotel. After looking at TripAdvisor, I felt this was my best option. I was wrong. The rooms were air-conditioned, equipped with flat panel TV's (only 1 western channel) and have incredible views of the river and ubiquitous hills. There is a nice swimming pool outdoors and two restaurants; a Chinese and Western variety. Unfortunately, the rooms were not that clean (except the sheets) that I was literally afraid to look under ...
