... the hotel quite tired as we had had a full day. As the sun set it was obvious Wayne was still not well and I went upstairs to get us some food. The sandwich I brought down to him was not eaten as nausea began to join the headaches. I ate well nevertheless (eating his share) and watched China’s English language channel on TV. We tried to sleep.
Tuesday 10th November. Both of us slept worse than the night before. I think the added shortness of breath even at rest at this ...
Lhasa, Tibet, China kasnsqueak... of the Tibetan state in 842 put a stop to Tibetan expansion in Asia; Tibet was never again to rise to arms.

Buddhism gradually began to exert its influence, giving the Tibetan mind a spiritual bent and turning it inward on itself. Tibet slowly emerged as the most devoutly Buddhist nation in the world.

The treaty had little effect and by 907, China had recovered almost all the territory it had lost to the Tibetans and the two states had little contact until Genghis ...
Lhasa, Tibet, China vague-abonding... the whole of the day, keeping all businesses closed: restaurants, taxis, shops - the lot, all closed, all day and nothing to do but sit in the hotel room. On tuesday things were open as usual and we managed to go to visit the ancient town of Bhaktapur in the Kathmandu Valley, which was quite cool.

On the wednesday we arrived in the afternoon and at last managed to get our passports back...the fun continues. We went quickly back to our travel agent to ...
Lhasa, Tibet, China globetrekcharli... my guide to organize. As she can't speak Tibetan(!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) she asked the driver to come with us so that he could translate my questions!!!!!! It was quite interesting. I find out that the wife is working in the field, the daughter in law will soon appear with the children home from school for lunch and the husband is at home!!!!!!!! It is on my last day that I ...
Lhasa, Tibet, China bowtie... That same day we went to Jokhang Temple. I was even getting templed out at this stage and getting blurrer eyes looking at hundreds of Buddas that looked a bit like Marg Simpson!!! We didn't stay here for very long.
We spent the rest of our time in Lhasa wandering the markets and the old part of town. The jewelry was great!!
We stayed in a class hotel which was nice since we were there for 4 nights ...
Lhasa, Tibet, China leonnatmckenna... Jong for serious money. The happy Tibetans stayed in the pool all night and broke out in chants frequently, sometimes waking us from our sleep. It's amazing how a people under such constant oppression still manage to remain content and cheerful. After a further ice-cold morning walk we departed the next day with a hearty good-bye from our hosts. The gravel road took us along the open plateau with sweeping views over the Himalayas with the last pass we crossed ...
Lhasa, China toine2000... to him for the tour, he said this was fine. Our guide and driver then picked us up in order for us to start our tour of the Potala Palace, which is the most famous and awe inspiring structures that we have ever seen. It is the former seat of the former Tibetan government, and is a famous symbol of Tibet and of Tibetan Buddhism. It is built on a hill close to the centre of the city of Lhasa and majestically towers over the city. Our guide, Tashi, who is very knowledgeble ...
Lhasa, Tibet, China jon-daniella· Lhasa, Tibet, China · GMT + 8hrs · Altitude: 11,975ft (3,650 metres) We're good boys Our time in Lhasa has come to an end and we're leaving here in the morning to begin our 5 day overland trip on the Friendship Highway that connects Lhasa to Kathmandu in Nepal. We're hoping the last 4 days that we've spent here have sufficiently acclimatised us for what lays ahead. We've been good boys and have tried to follow the 'Avoiding Altitude ...
Lhasa, China byrnedm... were amazing as well and overall you knew you were somewhere special. The second monastery I visited was Sera monastery which was good but not as good as the Deprung monastery and I wished that I visited them the other way around. One of the last things I did was to visit the Potala place because I could not get a ticket until the last day. From the outside the place is huge mainly because it is located on a hill and it makes Buckingham place looks ...
