As one of my old anthropology professors said in one of his brilliant book ("Noi primitivi" - Francesco Remotti) we need to do a "giro lungo" (long tour) meeting different cultures, going far away from our house to better understand ourself.

... got to see an original emperor gown (which the company bought back from an auction house in Japan - part of the spoils of the war) as well as a replica. The replica took 3 years to make.
