We were driven to the Chinese boarder control. Everything was fine until we showed our "Return Home Permit" (the permit for Hong Kong/Macau residents to enter China) alongside with our blue HKSAR Chinese passport at the customs. It took them a long time to go through our documents. We guessed we may be one of the very few people who have ever crossed this boarder with such documents in the past decade.(The visa-free arrangement ...

The actual cost was roughly 60 rubles/12 yuan but only if you had your own vehicle so there's nothing you can do to this money-ripping-off-coach. 12 hours later - we have crossed the border, travelled maybe 2 or 3 kilometers and its ...

... when the train would be stopping for a longer stop so we could get off for fresh air - the carriages are very warm, and it was nice to breathe fresh (albeit very cold!) air. The timetables are in Moscow time, and i left my watch on that, just working out local time as we went along (Bill has a 2 time zone watch so he was sorted!). We chatted (with the aid of the Russian dictionary!) to our carriagemates, slept, ate a bit, got of the train a couple of times a day ...

... and natural scenery but hate places with heaps of people. The two of us are not that picky about accomodation, or food except that we both hate guts, prefer to eat vegetables and love anything salty and spicy (except for guts). Fabulous. Mr Liu said he’d thought of me as soon as he heard she was from Taiwan because he’d remembered I lived there for 7 years. He has good instincts.
