... We ended up with a good spot, near the beginning and by the TV cameras, and watched the long awaited Dragon Boat Race. The Dragon Boats, were long, wooden canoes, with dragon heads planted on each end of the boat. In the middle, sat a giant drum beating the pace for what the rowers should do. In all, eight teams participated, and the race lasted for over two hours. We stayed and watched about an hour of the race due to it being the hottest day of the year. We took pictures, got up ...

The one down side was that the guys started to smoke and I literally found myself with a loss of air. April 5 is Qingmen festival day, and a public holiday, so we had a rare Sunday off.

I went across to Foshan with another NZ teacher who lives in NanGuoAoYuan (my complex) and we met up with David, who I taught with in Xi'an.

Zumiao Temple is an old temple by Guangdong standards, and was very impressive. Because it was Qingmen festival day, there were dragon dances and we happened to be there in time to see ...

... ladies invited me to join them in making dumplings. The stuffing was already made, all that was needed was wrapping the stuffing in the dough. Of which I found difficult. The ladies swarmed around me seeing my amateur level and began showing me the various techniques of making a Chinese dumpling. I’m still woeful when it comes to making dumplings, but, the experience was memorable.
