Today is the last day of our Sri Lanka tour. Before we begin our cross-country drive to Negombo, we said farewell to John M and Sarah. They are both staying in Sri Lanka for a few more days, so this is where we part ways. We also had to say a sad goodbye to Pathi and his lovely family. They had joined us in Nilaveli for a family vacation. After our farewells the rest of the group piled back into the vans for one last long drive actoss ...

Finding myself a well located sun bed under a palm tree, I passed the time by sleeping, catching up on my journal and a bit more sleeping. On Saturday, after a relaxing morning and getting my gear together I got a taxi from Negombo to Watalla (a suburb of Colombo), the starting hotel for my trip ...

... door like a spaniel with it's head out of the car window. He was happy. After a few hours rattling along beside an azure ocean we reached Weligama, hopped off and tuktuk'd our way to Mirissa.

Ensconced in a nice but expensive guesthouse (they are all expensive there) we set off looking for this deserted, pristine beach. I have no idea which plucky sole climbed all those palm trees to fit them all with different coloured rope lights but hats off to them. ...
