Malaetia Resort, Samoa Western johannajulienHello everyone!!! As I earlier told you we decided to spend a couple of days of our Easter break over at the great island of Savaii. That turned out to be a really good decision! Early Tuesday morning, 25th of mach, we headed for Mulifanua Wharf to catch the ferry to Salelologa Wharf in Savaii. The bus turned out to be a "regular" one where you actually get your own seat! When we reached the wharf after about an hour and a half we ...
Salelologa, Samoa Western fragglan... visited Moso's Footprint, which is supposedly the footprint of giant man named Moso who stepped across the islands of the South Pacific, and this is where he stepped on Samoa - apparrently there is a corresponding one in Fiji! But obviously there is a more scientific explanation regarding sinking lava and plants. The house of rock is also another local legend which I will explain about when I have more time.... Ok, back online for a bit...where was I? Ah... The house of rock ...

Samoa, Savai i, Samoa Western bafreux... the unlit road between the many villages that line the coast. After a fruit-heavy breakfast next morning, we were informed that we were the honoured first ever guests of the Samoan Village Guesthouse, and made to feel most welcome. Our host happily drove us into the centre of "town," as Apia, the capital, is known in all parts of the main island of the country, where we took a slow walk around the harbour amongst the heat and ...
Apia, Samoa claire_and_mikeWe didn't touch down till the early hours of the morning, we were both excited about warm weather that neither of us were too tired. For our first two nights we stayed in a beautiful place called 'Hidden Gardern' in the islands capital Apia, a selection of huts surrounded by a dense tropical garden. Breakfast was included in the price and was possible the nicest we had since being away, it included fresh fruit (from the garden) and rounds of toast. Eti who ...
Apia, Upolu, Samoa Western markandlydiaSunday, August 27, 2006 We are officially volunteers now. On Wednesday the 23rd we went back to Vaie'e for our swearing in. It was in a nice fale behind the church. The ladies had decorated it with branches and flowers. It was attended by members of our host families and others in the village, the Member of Parliament responsible for the ministry we work for, the American Charge de Faire and PC staff and volunteers. After the ceremony ...
Salelologa, Samoa Western rayandjanI guess I have quite a bit of updating to do. Vic and I were able to make it home for the holidays-we caught Thanksgiving and stayed until after the New Year. So, Manuia Tausaga Fou (Happy New Year!) to everyone. It was an awesome trip and I am glad we were able to do it. A few root canals later and here we are back in the Southern hemisphere sweating and smiling. Prior to traveling back to the U.S. of A. things were moving pretty slow. hmmmmmm......imagine that. No big ...
Salelologa, Samoa marciOctober 5, 2003 This past week has been a great week. On Monday I spoke with another diabetic patient and his wife. It went okay, but as my language improves I will be able to relay the information better. I try my best, but sometimes I am left disappointed and frustrated with myself that I can't communicate better. It's even more frustrating when we both have a look of confusion on our faces. Tuesdays are usually spent practicing and preparing my talks and now my aerobics ...
Salelologa, Savaii, Samoa marciJune 20, 2003 Talofa Lava! Well here I am. A month into what has been the best experience of my life so far. Vic and I are doing well and are glad that we are able to enjoy each others company once again. I am waiting for it to hit me that I am here, to seem real in some way, but maybe it never will. From the moment I got here I knew that I liked it, but riding on the bus (more on that later) one day I said to myself "Man, I love this place." Some days are a test for me, a test ...
