Wow. What a ride these last few couple of hours have been. From Johannesburg to Sydney, from Sydney to New Zealand and finally from New Zealand to Wellington. I now know how those contestants from The Amazing Race feel. Oh and you know I told you about Border Security, well we were on it. Ha ha... My family was like the penguins from Madagascar - " …
We had one last activity to do whilst in Coromandel and that was to have a trip on the Driving Creek Railway. This is the only narrow-gauge mountain railway in NZ and has a nice story behind it being a lifelong labour of love for its owner Barry Brickell. A potter by trade, he wanted to access the clay deposits in the hillside next to his pottery …
Staying overnight at the Jet Park Hotel , Mangere ,Auckland. Catch up with Rosemary and Bob. Booked luggage through earlier.
Off Auckland on NZ 8382 at 12:40 to stay at the Jetpark Hotel www.jetpark.co.nz .
We had a much better flight this time - less turbulence which is always good. Arrived at Hotel at about 11pm last night into the same room as when we left.
Although the room was bigger than the camper we certainly managed to fill the room with all our suitcases etc A quick cup of tea and it was into bed.

Historical Traveler Reviews Jet Park Auckland Airport Hotel & Conference Centre Mangere
After reading numerous reviews of various Auckland Airport hotels here on TripAdvisor, my wife & I decided to book at Jet Inn, and my wife contacted the hotel to make our booking directly with them.
Good choice for airport hotel
We needed to overnight in Auckland and picked the Jet Inn based primarily on location (a few minutes drive from airport) and services (mainly free 24-hour shuttle service). The shuttle picked us up within 10 minutes of our call and delivered us to the Jet Inn within 15 minutes. The room was a standard motel-type room -- clean and well-maintained -- but not very large. It suited us just fine (a place to crash at 1 AM). Buffet breakfast was OK and the usual fare (for Australia/NZ). For our purposes, we made the right choice and would do it again. It gets 4 bullets because of location, 3 bullets otherwise. But if I were touring NZ and staying more than one night, I'd look at other hotels.
Good airport hotel
My wife and I stayed at the Jet Inn Airport Hotel for one night on a stopover between Australia and Samoa. We were looking for something reasonably priced, comfortable and convenient.
Having read through the reviews for a lot of the hotels near the airport, most of them sounded pretty grim, some verging on Fawlty Towers.
I'm happy to say that the Jet Inn fitted the bill perfectly. We stayed in a standard room for NZ$112. It was small, but clean and comfortable, which is all that was needed for 1 night. Check in was effortless and friendly and the shuttle bus efficient and convenient.
I'd definitely recommended the Jet Inn for somewhere to lay your head for the night.
Great food otherwise very ordinary
Adequate room . We had a fantastic meal at the restaurant .. the lamb was out outstanding . The pool was little more than a wading pool . Excellent suttle service to and from airport . Watch there is a charge for every hour you stay beyond normal check out which I thought was quite cheap given the monies we spent at the hotel .
I looked at the other reviews, and I guess you do have to choose your room carefully. We passed through the older section of the hotel, and even the corridors of the new section were much more tasteful! Our room was very clean and comfortable, and the bathroom large.
Great accomodation close to the airport!
From the moment the reception desk answered the telephone, to the moment we left at 04h00 the next morning to get back to the airport, we could simply not find fault with this hotel.
Great location, especially since Auckland doesn't quite seem to have the same hotel facilities around the airport as one might expect of a major city with an international airport. Great food in the restaurant - the awards they have won, seems well deserved. (Fantastic lamb dish!!)
Simply put - I'll recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to stay in lose proximity to the airport.
Choose your room category carefully!
If your budget is not too tight, choose a "Deluxe" category room (we paid NZ$162). These are in a new wing and are a quite different experience from the disappointing NZ$137 "Premier" room we had last time. Staff were friendly and helpful (with the exception of one morose woman on the front desk, who seemed to regard customers as unwelcome irritants!). Hyper-efficient free shuttle service to/from the airport.
Have just read the other two reviews and have to say we had a totally different experience. We were picked up at Auckland Airport at about 12.30 at night about 10mins after phoning the hotel by a really friendly and helpful bus driver and taken to the hotel where the front desk staff were also really nice-especially considering the hour of night! We were shown to our room which was fantastic! The bathroom had a walk in double shower and fluffy robes, the tea and coffee making facilities were fine, the room had two queen sized beds and a sofa, desk and flat screen TV. The room was quiet and two adults and two toddlers slept off the long flight from UK just fine! I cannot comment on the restaurant food because we did not eat at the hotel. As a stopover before collecting our car the next morning (used the shuttlebus to go back to the airport) I cannot fault the Jet Inn.
Avoid eating in the restaurant
I agree with the previous review re the size of the room, and although the hotel itself was reasonably attractive and the staff were pleasant it definitely wasn't 4 star. The location means that guests have little option to eat elsewhere but the meal we had in the restaurant was appalling. What was described as a prime Angus beef steak, priced at NZ $33, turned out to be an inedible lump of fat and gristle. And the beef carpaccio had the smallest slivers of meat ever seen plus some of the ingredients were missing. We wouldn't stay there again.
This supposed 4 star hotel was recommended by the travel agent who had also set us up with a 4 star hotel in Kuala Lumpur that only cost $2 NZD more than the Jet Inn. Perhaps given the economic standing of each country its inevitable that the Jet Inn came across as a rip off after our KL experience.
