crusaders' fort and lebanese border

The youth hostel near the lightning tower (old Caravansary) is shut down. The old city has two badly run hostels remaining: Gate and Cherry. I don't know about the whereabouts of the new city but from my experience I discourage indiv. low budget travellers to stay over in Akko. I was in Gate and was bitten by bed fleas. Make sure you don't pay more than 30Sh in a dorm. The medina itself is an awesome place. Muslim population that immensely increased the impression I had of Arabs from before (...

... here at 18 on Machon. Ezra was in heaven with all the kids hanging outside, and wants to move to TA rather than Jerusalem because he prefers the shul here. Then back to Miriam and Jonathon's for a breakfast with most of their Chavura - about 50 hungry people. Ezra spent the evening with his new friend, No’am, whose name he could never quite remember, watching the other kids play ping-pong, and sitting on Yishai’s lap. Adin followed Ezra around ...

Back again!

After 3 hours of buses I was back in Jerusalem. I walked to Olgas place and arived at 4pm. She came back at 5pm but as I hadnt aranged anything I think it was a nice supprise for her.... I hope! We had a nice walk in the evening and I have spent the day being lazy as I had a lot of typing to catch up on. This evening we are off to Tel aviv where I will spend my final 2 days before my flight back to England on Thursday.

... guide led the remnant of our group on a quick hike of the Via Delarosa filling us in with a very humorous yet irreverent look at the stations along the way, including an indention in a wall that tradition has it that Christ stopped and leaned on the wall as he carried His cross. Our guide stated that he felt that this had been a great imaginative marketing strategy of some ancient Christian merchant.

... cafe and wi-fi. We set up shop and probably spent a good three hours there, snacking and typing.

In the evening, we thought it would be fun to see "Angels and Demons," which stars Ayelet Zurer (oh, and Tom Hanks), who is an Israeli actress we know and like from an Israeli "Friends"-like TV series from the late '90s that we both enjoyed watching recently. We thought it might be interesting to see the reaction of an Israeli audience to one of their own in a big ...

History or Tradition

... who've looked very little at all the archeological excavations and learned very little of the history of this place and all the people who've lived here over the millenia. It seems that some of them can only see this place through the very narrow and dim lens of their tradition. Today, we walked through the tunnel under the Western Wall. A friend had given me a prayer on a small piece of paper and asked me to place it in the wall as we visited, and I did so. I ...

... years of. The orthodox simply study the Torah, the Jewish equivalent of the bible which i think is mainly based on the old testament and see their role in society as to spread the word of god. They know nothing of the world as all they study is judaism, and in the fear of sounding un PC they look like a bunch of inbred spazzers to be honest, its like they arnt with it and just charge around with their heads down lookin all creepy and peadophilic, but thats just my humble opinion.

... Jordan's King Hussein sold a house in London to fund the 80kg of gold required for the dome! Again, we weren't allowed inside to see the Foundation Stone, even though this is the holiest spot in all of Judaism - which Jews pray towards, where Abraham was to sacrifice Isaac, the Ark of the Covenant stood, and the world was created. I had a few pictures of me taken in front of the Dome, which may be somewhat heretical.

He acted as a guide for me this evening and explained all kinds of stuff to me, about the daily life in the occupied regions. He said he liked Germany because of Adolf Hitler and what he did to the Jews. He also told me some stories about how settlers (they call them "colonists" on the other side of the wall) provoked ...
