... in the photos. It was fun. The best part was walking around the place with the ajummas behind us. An ajumma is a middle-aged woman, typically married, who are generally very conservative. They're usually the ones telling me to use an umbrella when it's raining or to stop jaywalking (in the crosswalk when the light is red but there are no cars coming in any direction). Since I was tired, I ruled out any hiking, leaving me with a few sites to explore by bus. One of the big draws on the island are the three craters left over from volcanoes (the last volcanic activity recorded here was about a thousand years ago). The most accessible one from Jeju city by bus was Seonsan, and odd little crater that looks like a mesa from the side, but is very concave and green in the ...

... ceiling far above me. Unfortunately, also like Hwaseongul, a small amount of tack has seeped into the tube – whilst not quite as hideous as the neon-bright rope lights, there are still a couple of those colour-changing spotlights in some of the larger chambers. Even I, lover of all things brightly coloured, had to admit it was a bit offputting. Still, it was good to have some light, because when I got down there, it turned out that my method of throwing my head ...
