... the wrong address, after driving through some pretty dodgy streets we finally found the street we were looking for. We had just decided we must have it wrong and would have to navigate out of there. Both the boys heard a couple of gunshots, then Ben said in a very calm voice 'ah guys, I think someone has just been shot behind us' we turn round to see a crowd forming. It was an 'oh sh*t, what do we do ...

    Turtles & tiredness

Getting up I packed up my belongings in the hostel before heading to the local supermarket to pick up some breakfast, but as the bakery was closed I returned only with water & a packet of Spongebob biscuits - have to note their range of characters on biscuits over here is fantastic! The area around our hostel was a bit seedy so I didn't feel particularly safe walking by myself, but was so near to the hostel if there was any issues the would have heard. ...

... and shouting to passers by - I heard my hotel name checked on one of his noise drive-bys! It's all going to get much much livlier on my next stop though, as I'm now getting psyched up for CARNAVAL! ... 4 hours drive from Aracaju, and I joined an organized daytrip to get there. With hands and feet I succeeded in communicating a bit with the other tourpeople, we were with 6, and I was the only gringo. the canyon is filled by a river so we did a boattrip, with at least 50 other Brazilians and no foreigners. I was definitely off the gringo-track and on the Brazilian-tourist-track!!

It was really beautiful but too far of a drive for the time spent there.
