Channeling Maria Von Trapp

This morning we set out for the famous Swiss Alps. Think Sound of Music. Yes, I know that was set in Austria, but think of the setting nonetheless. We took a morning train from Zurich to Interlaken, where we would spend the night. The approach into the Alps was breathtaking. Technically it's breathtaking in more ways than one, because at the higher altitudes it does become a little more difficult to breath, but not as noticable as I've ...

... deal with couch surfers is that couch surfers help out at the hostel to earn their keep (and stay for free). So, we washed the breakfast dishes, swept and mopped the floor, vacuumed a few rooms, etc. We became friends with the girl who was working and she found us the key. The room we stayed in was the "bouldering room." Basically, it was the attic of the hostel and the peaked ceiling had rock climbing holds all over it and the ground is ...

So instead of spending the night on a sleeping train, we took turns driving and sleeping (thank you Alex for the wonderful neck pillow!).

We drove into Interlaken around 9, into GORGEOUS views of mountains and lakes (thanks Jess!!). Day 4: Grindelwald

28.8.08: Day 4 - Grindelwald This morning we woke up to our best view yet, and maybe the best we will have in Switzerland. With a perfect blue sky as the backdrop, Eiger stood there, waiting for us to wake up. I snapped a few photos before ever getting out of bed and started my day with some free breakfast. If you know me well enough, you should know that a free breakfast means only one thing: free lunch too. We filled ...

Blue-Green Waters

... There were gorgeous views of the mountains and lakes, so we did a little bench sitting, reading, looking, and listening to French horns playing in the mountains. Monday, we rented mountain bikes and took an intense, but wonderful bike ride to Wilderswil and then along the Aare river into the mountains to Gsteigwiler, Zweilutschinen, and finally Lauterbrunnen. It was such a ...

Hiking the hills and cows with bells

wow Grindewald is amazing! we took a train from Lucerne to Interlaken, then another train from Interlaken to Grindewald. we are up at some of the tallest peaks in all of the Swiss Alps where at the very top there is snow year round. we were going to take a train to the highest train station in all of Europe called Jungfroujoch but it is an all day destination, costs $145, and it was cloudy up there so we didn't go. we didn't get to Grindewald ...

Lauterbrunnen 2

1 hora ...

Swiss Chocolate here I come!

... energy (I assume they get paid well.) Our meal was made up with Cheese fondue as a starter (we were shown how to twirl the bread in the cheese to cover it and then eat it care of one of the ladies on the tour saying she would help, our man host almost shoved the piece of bread covered in scalding cheese down her throat!) At one point we were offered to try bread dipped in the hosts Glacier Water then dipped in the cheese, I have no idea what it was but the alcohol ...
