Historical Traveler Reviews of Jarvis Piccadilly Hotel Manchester
The Worst Hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
Having recently stayed in this hotel I can strongly advise NOT TO BOOK. The entire hotel is very shabby and outdated. The rooms are badly decorated, dirty and unbelievably substandard. On complaint the manager accepted that they are investing money on improvements, basically accepting that the hotel was in dire need for repair, but that is not reflected on the room prices as they are still willing to charge a considerable amount of money for a room which you would be disappointed with if it was a B&B! Warning DO NOT BOOK unless you want a horrible stay. If you want to pay a little bit extra try Renaissance hotel it is high quality!

Just an appalling hotel. Shabby and decayed. Contrary to what is written the breakfast is appalling and I get better from my local greasy spoon. The room was dirty, the bathroom features cracked. A colleague did not have a door know on the inside of her room. When I asked for room service for breakfast the wheat products were rock hard. A colleague did not receive hers at all. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL.
Couldn't agree more....

Having read recent reviews of this hotel....I couldn't agree more with the comments and observations made by the reviewers. The location is the only thing in its favour......and the only saving grace in lifting it from a "Terrible" rating to "Okay, but some problems". BIG problems.
A shabby hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
I've just spent two days at the Jarvis Piccadilly, and a thoroughly depressing experience it was, save for the lovely pool and jacuzzi. The whole hotel is very tacky in a 'sixties' type of style. My room was shabby, overheated, the bathroom had a cracked sink, missing ceiling tiles and was just dark. I don't know how often they hoover the carpets but I found old chips behind one of the chairs! The cooked breakfast was inedible. On my second night I was actually asked to move my car so the management could squeeze a few more cars in - I was approached at the bar to do this, having already had two or three alcoholic drinks! I have never been asked this in all the hotels I've stayed in. The hotel is in a very seedy part of Manchester - if you like being accosted by tramps when you walk out of the hotel, you'll love it. Please somebody knock the whole lot down and start again!
Dreadful, terrible, awful.....

Booked the Piccadilly for Valentines night. On arrival we were informed they had double booked loads of rooms and that we would have to get a taxi to stay at an airport hotel. Manager Basil Fawlty - like and staff surly - though I'm sure the hoards of complaining customers didn't help. I was forced to kick up a fuss, and was magically found an 'Executive' room on 14th floor. Great views but room was v worn, furniture old, dated and shappy and paper peeling on ceiling. Bathroom not the cleanest and showere was pathetic. On the plus side, breakfast and pool/jacuzzi area were great. But that's it. This hotel confirmed all my worst fears of chain hotels, no personal touch and they really need to either decorate or pull the monstrosity down! This hotel may be just OK to crash, but please don't consider taking anyone there if you want to impress!!
Stay somewhere else

When I am away on business as a single woman my top priority is the room and then gym facilities. I needed a place close to my meeting place and this seemed to be ok though I had read some of the bad reviews from trip adviser. Believe the bad reviews if rooms are important to you! My bathroom had mould all round bath, disgusting cracked plastic sink, hair and debris on floor - cracked tiles, broken toilet roll holder - awful. Long black hair on my pillow when I took cover off - generally tired room- as you enter the hotel the lobby has a hirrible musty smell. seb coe gym is also tired and not 100% fresh and clean. Saving grace was restaurant for breakfast . I complained, which I rarely do and heard nothing so far from manager as promised - they said it needs refurbishing - I said then why let out the rooms. Go somewhere else.
More than Pleasant Stay

Having booked this hotel and then read the previous two reviews, I was not looking forward to my stay.
Although travelling for pleasure at the weekend, my friend and I ended up on two double rooms for the price of 1 twin as they had over booked on twin rooms. A more than exceptable comprimise.
Although the corridors had seen better days, the rooms were clean and comfortable, but not luxurious in anyway. We made full use of the facilities there, the pool and spa were excellant. The gym was small but adequatley equiped so long as there were only a few using they gym at any one time. The steam room and sauna were excellent. The only grumble could be that the changing rooms at the pool were quite old and a bit shabby.
We paid £68 for the two including a full buffet breakfast - which was absolutley excellent, although the hotel was very busy and it took a while for us to be seated for breakfast.
Overall a more than pleasant stay and would highly recommend its crentral location and facilities for a week end break.

Thank you Jarvis.
Jarvis Piccadily - Awful

I have stayed at this property twice now and not through choice, as it was booked for me by Business Associates. Although centrally located over looking the bus and tram interchange, the hotel looks like a ugly dirty condemned tower block from the 60's. Truly uninspiring. The rooms are grotty and in need of urgent refurbishment, but why bother spending money on such a ugly eyesore, I would suggest that it would be better to demolish and start a fresh, with the location and staff being its only qualities. I cannot understand why the owners have let it come to such a dire state of repair, definatetly not worth the rates they charge. I've stayed in better 2* hotels the AA/RAC need to re-evaluate its 4 Star catagory.
Loved the quietness of the room

This hotel is in the very heart of manchester, which is where you really want to be and is next to all inter-city transport. The building itself is awful looking from the exterior and in fact the Jarvis Hotel only starts at the fifth floor. Most residents are on a package , so this is not an Hotel for the discerning but on a package of £27.50 bed and breakfast I was not complaining. The room (no618) was the quietest I have ever experienced even although it was next to an elevator and the view was great.Room service is the way to go. The dining area is uninviting for an evening meal. Watch breakfast. There can be an enormous queue. The leisure pool on the very ground floor is as it should be. As stated, a large hotel in the very centre of manchester with no stars. one for those on a package , but certainly not a disappointment. with free supervised parking
The hotel that paint forgot

Hotel location excellent - right in centre of town with excellent views. Unfortunately a bomb must have landed on the site of the hotel during the second world war allowing show 60s mad-man to build such a distinguishingly horrible concrete monstrosity. Once inside besides the refurbed bar on the 3rd floor - the hotel corridors and floors do not seem to have been refurbished or decorated for at least 25 years. The room I was given was on the 12th floor and although clean and tidy, the furniture was all chipped and worn out, wallpaper hanging from the walls, bathroom a tribute to some prehistoric time that required a geological time to date accurately. I asked at reception to move to a more "modern room" but was told that no rooms have been refurbished ever. The second room I was offered was actually in better shape since not bashed around so much but the aluminium foil in the ventilator, clapped out bed, same prehistoric bathroom with black grout painted the same picture. This is a reasonable hotel with good service and clean - Jarvis just need to spend some money on it to justify the prices they charge.
