... fun. After the show, we went to lunch with the crew at the wonderful hometown restaurant next door called Lunde's. They stayed open past their normal lunch hours just for us. I had a fried catfish po'boy, and was full for the rest of the day. The guys then invited us to their house this Saturday on our drive up to Decatur, AL from New Orleans. We'll see if we make it, but I bet it would be fun if we do.
... from out of town come join us. It was as if we were on some kind of educational VIP tour when we found out that Morris Dees, one of the co-founders of the Southern Poverty Law Center, was going to be joining us along with his wife, artist Susan Starr. What an opportunity to meet these two bigger than life people. They were both down to earth, friendly and full of life. Once again Marney, thank you for an incredible experience.
... easy to feel the center and heart of family life in this wonderful old home.
Young hunts and fishes bringing dinner to the table and filling their freezer every year with venison. Suzy and Young are as down to earth with their hunting and gardening and canning as they are elegant in their beautiful home. They represent the two worlds with ease as they arrange for us to go to their farm, "Glen Thistle"
Off we go in the SUV about an hours drive to a long unpaved driveway. Through ...
... s house visitng her Uncle while a young girl. The house had changed hands over the years but had not been kept up with the times. When Marney heard it was to come on the market, she bought it and dove right in to make it fit her lifestyle. Marney changed walls and location of rooms and has given this wonderful old homestead a new lease on life. The workmanship is wonderful as it is clever in design and function. Reflecting her sense of color and the marrying ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States jodieandandy... on a two lane road at the time and didn't want to take any chances. I pulled over into a closed gas station that had an over hang that looked like it was about to fall over. At the moment it was all I had to take cover.
I rode until about 830pm local time and headed up getting a hotel in Meridian, Miss. Its a tiny town with a lot of hotels. I took my time this morning. In fact I slept in until about 10am. After a 15 hour day I really needed the sleep.
Believe it or not, there are 54 Championship Holes at the Capitol Hill Golf Course in Prattville, AL that are part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail. Jerry took the opportunity to get in a round of golf and was amazed at the beauty and pristinely maintained course.
While Jerry was hitting a small ball around Prattville, Alex & I spent some time in the pool to cool off. Bella used to jump into the pool to me when she was a puppy, but I couldn't ...
We left the Gulf Coast today and headed into Alabama to visit with Aunt Kathy and Uncle D. I used to live with Aunt Kathy and Uncle D in Florida. But I haven't been to visit then in Alabama for the last 5 years. What a great reunion.
My cousin Jackie cooked up some homemade lasagna and these ...
... the street reminiscent of when the lizard jumped on his chest at dinner in Costa Rica. Locals don't seem bothered. A quick search of the area reveals no other night-time places to go so we head to the outskirts away from the infestation for drinks then sleep in the slightly seedy parking lot of Buffalo Wild Wings - lots of people eating wings. (We play trivia - despite an American history handicap, Ted is humbled once the bet is laid down).
Montgomery, Alabama, United States tednims... and take off---thermos of coffee, snacks and nerve pill. It was not long that we started to find out just how bad the interstate was. We did not get more that a couple of miles before we started to cars and trucks off the side of the interstate. Needless to say--you could not stick a pin up our butts and proceeded to drive. The roads was horrible--they have no snow removal AL. As we ...
