Our gentleman has been three times to see it, and so seems authoritative. He told us a number of interesting stories about what has been learned since the ship came up. ... their independence from Spain in 1811. The constitution was ratified in 1830. Uruguay has a socialist government. The current president is Jose Mojica, an interesting character. He donates 90% of his salary to charity, he refuses to live in the presidential palace, but lives on his farm in the suburbs. He uses the presidential palace only for official functions. He has one more year in his term. Montevideo is located on the Rio de la Plata, which ...
