... Trail of Tears in 1839. It took five long years, but she managed to leave Oklahoma and return by foot to her beloved land in Alabama.
We then rejoined the party at the Hasting house for a cookout of hot dogs and beer. It was a delightful end to a great reunion.
Shortly we will be leaving Florence and continuing our journey heading towards Mississippi.

We saw a bobcat slinking through the woods this morning and then an eagle fished by our starboard side. Also a few small ducks and a heron hung out by the boat most of the day. Otherwise, there was not a living soul around beyond a couple of barges in the distance. I spent the day reading in my bridge solarium while ...

... Park. We ended up going about 74 miles today, far more than we wanted to go. Pumping, dumping and locking down and then cruising for about 8 hours made for a very long day. It was surely a lot further than we wanted to go but unfortunately there are not many good places to drop anchor beyond Decatur, at least until you get to Wheeler Dam. We barely made anchor before sunset but then again, who expects it to get dark by 5:15? This far eastern edge of ...
