... Surprisingly, he said that the people who tend to come here to the site and dig up rocks and vandalize the structures are the Belizeans. I asked, “Do you think Belizeans are irresponsible and disrespectful?” Antony said, “Yeah. … Well, yeah some are, man. There are a good number of people who don’t care and are lazy. Yeah man, there are some who have no respect.” Antony showed me a few more points of interest in ...
San Ignacio, Cayo, Belize yoomster... br>where we were offered a room with a double bed, single bed and shared
bathrooms for $12 US a night. We took it and were happy to see we had
the whole compound to ourselves, apart from the huge iguanas and the
loud roosters in our yard.
After getting settled, we went off to
find a place for dinner and found a place where we would spent most
of our time over the next 3 days. Amazingly, as much as we were
there, none of us thought to see what the ...

The fig trees lining the river we dropping their golf ball sized fruits. This was obviously an opportunity to have a fig fight as we drifted aimlessly down the river. We also randomly had a big earth quake on Wednesday night. At about 2am I woke up to find the whole room shaking! Apparently the epi-center was about 150km out to sea ...

San Ignacio, Belize sarainbelize... Main Attraction. We set off at the start of the 130-foot climb... About a third of the way up, there's a platform where we can rest and admire one of the most interesting features of the site: The West Frieze. This was preserved by dint of having been covered by a further building; the Maya liked to improve their temples ...
Xunantunich, Belize racinghippoWe decided to just hang out today, familiarizing ourselves with the lodge, the grounds and activities since this would be our home base for the next week. Restful day taking pictures, lounging in our hammocks, eating delish food, and taking naps. Ahhhh.
San Ignacio, Cayo, Belize nate-n-amy... they know the concept of full as they always seem to be able to squeeze more on however many faces are in armpits. I make it just in time and the 2 Irish girls also hop on with seconds to spare. We're the only gringos on this locals bus and it makes me feel like more of a traveller even though this track has been beaten many many times. We stop at Belmopan (the capital of Belize) and I sit happilly eating my pack-up lunch from Zoe of lovingly ...
san ignacio, Belize sihaighYes we finally made it to Belize. It took awhile but we finally got here. The day before yesterday everyone was saying good-bye to us. One lady gave us this good Mexican dessert. Also another lady was crying and they all promised to look at our blog. Yesterday we caught a bus to Playa de Carmen, took a taxi to the other bus station, then a bus to ...
San Ignacio, Cayo, Belize sabrinapm... them already) and then walked around town. San Ignacio is a nice town, full of hotels and hostels, colourful and warm. Warm as in people are nice, not temperature. Temperature is SMOKIN' hot (scientific term, i believe). While here i'm gonna pamper myself with hot, sweaty, dusty, dirty tours of ancient maya ruins. Some like spas and facials. Apparently i prefer to sweat and stick and be eaten alive by mammoth mosquitos. Each to their own.
San Ignacio, Belize travel.junkie... the eggs. She also showed us her small exhibits of local tarantulas, cockroaches, and praying mantii, though those were less impressive than the butterflies. After the tour, she showed us her gift section (t-shirts, carved bowls, visors, etc.) and asked who paid (us or Selmo). Selmo said that we paid, which came as a surprise to us as we had only been told to bring money for ...
