And a guy from Estonia who was in DR for a month up north Kite Surfing. His name is Tarvo. And another guy from Chile (I think.. maybe it was Argentina) who I would find out later was an excellent dancer! His name was Daniel. There were also 2 people from Germany (I forget their names :-/) and another girl from Argentina named Maria.

      On returning to Santo Domingo we had booked 2 nights in a swanky boutique hotel just round the corner from the colonial plaza. Santo Domingo was the first city of the Americas and the zona colonial is a surprisingly peaceful place. We had a week earlier come across PADELA, an animal sanctuary just round the corner from our hotel. We returned and this time were lucky enough to met the owner, Laura, who spoke excellent english.       ... me) was in the DR and they were here doing operations. The group was there Tuesday-Friday to do consults, check the hernias, and operate. 4 days and the operated on about 140 patients.

      *Great to know: will by far be the best thing I could have/will do in 2 years.
      *Saddening to realize: if the American (me) hadn't been living in Guasumita, been able to pay for transport and food, and the group hadn't come in for free ...

      Another great weekend...  Puerto Plata was mostly just a relaxing atmosphere- beach, food, cards, good conversation,  and all of us were completely fine with that- apart from the waterfalls.  I'm have to say that the 27 waterfalls hike is the coolest thing I've ever done! Basically you just wear running shoes, a swim suit, a life jacket and a helmet, then set off on the hike (with 2 amazing guides). I would ...
