      11/11 Corfu

We left the ship late and spent some time using the Port's free wifi. We were heading to the bus stop to take a bus into town when we ran into an enterprising taxi driver. He was waiting at the bus stop instead of in the line of taxis looking for €100 fares to tour the island. He offered us a €10 trip to the historic district and the same back. We found ...

... doing a few cockle-doodle-doos, then just a recording of Ave Maria and a parade of gilded figures out of one door and into another.

The highlight of the day was going into a tiny bar/sandwich shop. We got the Toast Maxi with melted cheese, ham, crispy lettuce, and tomato. It was strangely delicious.. Ed took a picture of the couple who owned the place. She was very taken with it (Bella, Bella), so we figured out how to send it to their ...

We spent a couple of very interesting hours in both the house and the gardens and admiring the spectacular views. Did I mention that ...

... too was it was a sandy beach that stretched for kilometres in each direction. Coming at off peak times has been wonderful as sites are nearly empty. During summer it seems the place is so loaded with sun lounges it’s hard find any real estate. Instead, we were greeted with local dogs running riot up and down the sand. With the cooler weather by the beach this has meant mosquito overload. Fine for me, but Laura is getting mauled nightly.

... that we hadn't anticipated and a type that we didn't really want. What we thought was going to be a fairly quick journey ended up being long. Our 6-7hrs had passed and we had come to the boarder crossing ready to depart Greece and enter Albania. It was dark, cold and raining outside and we got off the bus and lined up at the passport check point. With fresh stamps in the passports we were back on the bus. The turn off to head west towards the coast to Sarande looked like it ...
