It's the Kagoshima 鹿兒島 Day.

The boat docked at 7am. By 9am, we were in the bus ready to be the tourists…..The weather can’t be grimmer. After that it was down to the harbour for a beer while ...

On the pier were 15-20 raincoat-clad and umbrella-bearing Japanese waving bright orange flags to greet us. We watched the gangplank being positioned. Then a piece of carpeting was placed on the ground at the base and a man used a plastic sprinkler can to ...

... with foreign nations was strictly prohibited by the national government. The museum has a short film about their experiences--the long trip in huge ships that were far larger than anything they had seen in Japan, the technology of piped natural gas that could light an entire city, and industrial technology far beyond what existed in Japan. They also saw how badly the British colonists treated the people in the Asian countries ...
