... lush a bit like Byron hinterland. Then the surf beaches and rock formations reminded me a little of point perry near Coolum. Nice! Of course this place has a style all its own we're in Japan! :) Very excited to be here. Destination: Shimoda and our home for 3 nights at Shirahama beach. It's a little surfie town that looks straight out of the seventies. Our plan is to relax after the big city. We're all glad to be here. Only drawback is the rain. We're hoping for some fine ...

Dinner was traditional Japanese banquet called Kaiseki. It was more of an art display than a meal. Six courses later, we were full. Sake was great. ...

... and Hakodate to American ships. A nice small temple with a fairly large cemetery behind it. There is also an old fashioned waterpump, lots of beautiful, large wooden buckets and lots of brushes. Wonder what those are used for..... There are lots of very fragrant white and lilac flowers, which, as I later find out, are American jasmine plants. The whole temple yard is filled with the intoxicating fragrance of these flowers. The temple is also called the Temple of ...

In the main hall of the Ryosenji Temple in Shimoda on May 25 1854 Perry signed the Shimoda Treaty appending the U.S. Japan Treaty of Peace and Amity (Kanagawa Treaty) which was signed in Kanagawa earlier on March 31 1854. Russia signed their Treaty of Shimoda with Japan in 1855, explaining the memorial in Japanese and Russian. In the bay is a beautiful densely treed little island with a small red tori. There is ...
