Buenos Aires: faded elegance

... due to the long time it takes for lights to change and the fact that it is against the law to cross on red. So you can imagine his thoughts when he discovered that Avenida de 9 Julio is 18 lanes wide and can take up to three changes of lights to get across, but it's not actually as bad as you think it may be!

The Spanish lessons are HARD! We hadn't realised just how much we had forgotten over the years since we took those lessons in Leeds. To add to the ...

Nadine went up to the lady with a walkie talkie in the restaurant and managed to get them on the waiting list for a 3 person table. After 15 minutes the trio were led across the

... currently living at the Chabad in Buenos Aires. The daughter and father spoke good English. We chatted throughout dinner and they made me feel so welcome. I told stories of my travelling and about what I do back home, they told me stories about Judaism and being Jewish in Buenos Aires. They were more religious than me and were so welcoming. It was truly amazing! Dinner was delicous and when the salt beef came out for the main course, I couldn´t hide my excitement. I was wary of ...

... in Recoleta is farely jaw dropping as graveyards go.It is the final resting place of the rich and famous. Each tomb is built bigger and better than the one before. It's a maze of narrow streets, for which the search for Evita might be a 'needle in a haystack' type situation, if her tomb weren't constantly surrounded with tourists snapping the obligatory pics, and school kids with clipboards.

A broken heart

... deciding factor was that he was um...leaking. If he would have been a bit more determined, and kept following me, we'd be at the vet right now, and I'd be writing a different story. As it stands...the question for all of you is--should I go back and get him? P.S Now that I can see cats, they are everywhere. But Buenos Aires is really all about dogs. They are a big part of the culture. Portenos pay big money for dog walkers ...

What a day!

... kidney and an amazing looking blood sausage I have ever seen (remember I've been to Ireland). But also a nice chicken leg, brisket and great short ribs. You should've seen Kev, he was so giddy with the parilla and then it came to the table and, man...but we had a nice Malbec and a very green salad. It's raining pretty heavily tonight and tomorrow is our last day in BA, so I'm sure it will dawn fresh and new. Thinking of you all. With love.

A great 2 days to sit and talk to some portenos and see how people live here. nice break from just travel tales with other travellers.

... we both remember that we learned to type and did all of our college papers on typewriters. We continue on the main street and locating the street signs is sometimes a challenge. As you will see in the photos, sometimes they are crystal clear, sometimes they are tiny or hidden, and sometimes non existent. When we have walked about one hour, we feel a little hungry and we think we are approaching the fair, so we stop in a small ...
