    ... how long it took to make these with such precise detail. They are said to be the best Byzantine mosaics outside of Turkey.
    They have been preserved really well and are still shimmering and glittering in all their glory.

    My favourites were the amazing midnight blue and gold mosaics in the Mausoleo Di Galla Placida. It is a really tiny mausoleum in the grounds of the very fancy Basilica Di San Vitali . The exterior is ...

    ... We did not buy our tickets before hand. You can always buy at ticket once you are on the train. We did that on our train to Bologna and ended paying more. Once we got to Bologna we tried to get tickets to Florence but all the trains where sold out. We were not sure what todo. We didn't want to spend the day in Bologna as we had already been there.     ... the hotel, our hotel, had recommended an Italian restaurant not far from the Casa Masoli. We took the option of sipping inside - yep, there was AC. The meals were excellent. Annette had what she described as the best tortellini that she has ever eaten and I had the mixed mate skewers with grilled veg. Mine was top notch.
