Our travels began yesterday morning at 07:00am at Central Station in Sydney, ahead of us was a 16 hour coach journey to Surfers Paradise in the Gold Coast. What a journey!! To put it simply we weren’t looking forward to it, however throughout and after completion, we thought it wasn’t as bad as we thought it would be, I can proudly say we did well, we didn’t bite each other’s heads off once :-) I surprisingly passed the time quite well by just looking out the window, I...

Brisbane, Australia mirka_blogXmas Eve Checked into the Islander Hotel which seemed quite nice. It was a hotel and backpackers in one and we got to use the hotel facilities including sauna, pool, spa etc. Got our room with 2 bunk beds, fridge, TV, balcony but NO air con. We were right in the middle of town which was handy. On check in we were given free drinks vouchers for the bar next door. Fair deal!! So went for a few drinks and then went down to the beach where there were sand sculpture displays all lit up. Town was a...

... birthday and make sure everyone at home is well; both were glad to hear from us and glad to hear what a fabulous time we were having.

The weather had been overcast all day and by late afternoon the wind had become quite strong. Just as we were finishing tea, a really heavy rainstorm started and someone in a neighbouring van was heard shouting "The cyclone is coming"!!! We certainly hope not!
Surfers Paradise, Queensland, Australia claireandmark... in Tweed Heads the beaches stretched out in miles of open golden sand sprinkled with small hills affording pretty views to the south. We had some time to kill so we had, fish and chips of course, and watched some of the quicksilver pro surfing competition. Jeff was forced to admit that even as avid surfer watching the best surfers in the world in competition in these waves was not very exciting as there was much more sitting than surfing. But it was still good to ...
Tweed Heads, Australia jenandjeffmilum... the whole thing over and done with. Rhona responded with a good point that horses can die from the flu, but I merely joked that it seemed a bit harsh! However, both our faces were photographed and put in the newspaper together with our comments! I'll put a photo of the page on the blog. So, after that we thought we were far too famous for this town and moved to Brisbane where we wouldn't be noticed too much! :-)
Surfers Paradise, Australia risint... the world's 10 most venomous snakes was a bit scary as there was only a small piece of glass between us. Apparently, the most venomous snake's poison can kill over 100 people with one drop or bite! Feeding the Elephants was great, their trunks are a bit sloppy and they certainly enjoyed the food they were getting - a fantastic experience. It was also amazing to see the tigers playing with their keepers. They are apparently still wild, but as they are used to ...
The Gold Coast, Australia laurieandjilly... Ashes hype from the terribly one-sided press. All quite amusing which will make victory that much sweeter. I finally arrived in Brizzy at 8pm on the Wednesday where I met up with Wigan Rob and Handsome Chris who I'd met on the Pakistan and Indian tours (in fact they hadn't been home since India in April so we had a few stories to catch up on). We went down the Pig'n'Whistle pub which unfortunately was the ...
Woolloongabba, Brisbane, Australia dazzla... way out! In short, definately worth the price and I wish we could do it again because we were so excited that we kind of sped through. Feeling inspired by our fun time at Infinity led us to try out Space Walker, a space themed concept that is run by the same people. Unfortunately by the time we had got there we wouldn't have had enough time to do it properly. It was subsequently added to the list with Shrek 4D of things that we hadn't done that require us to visit again!
