Mahires to Aghir

This is a predominately Muslim country and as such no alcohol is served. Chezzy a splashed out and bought himself a fruit juice mix with an assortment of umbrellas and swizzle sticks. Jerba: Dirt and shrubs
... couple for two hours to see what we could see. Ed drove the car through the twisting, sharply-turning dirt backroads, which were at times treacherous, not only because the roads were narrow, but because the windy air was filled with sand and dust. The dust that the buggies in front of us stirred up was so thick in places that we could barely see the obstacles ahead.

The island of Jerba
... weather was a bit warmer! We visited the oldest Synagogue in Africa, very interesting!!
Besides that, the island is mainly a holiday resort for Europeans in the summer, so we only spent two days there.
Next stop was Tatatouine, to visit the old fortified Berber villages. Worth the visit, a few of the Star Wars scenes were filmed here.

The Isle of Djerba
We stayed at a beautiful hotel/resort in Djerba along the beach where riders, at dusk and dawn, appeared with their horses. Really a beautiful setting. In Djerba we visited a functioning synagogue as well as the medina area of Houmt Souk, Djerba's main market town. . The medina was very quaint in appearance with many of the locals wearing traditional dress.
