Perfect location for riding the smokies. Quaint little town. We stayed at the Spring Creek Taven, rooms very large and over look the creek

We went a couple more miles after leaving the Great Smoky Mountains National Park to Standing Bear hostel, where we planned to eat breakfast. On the way, we crossed under I-40, which felt like the closest I'd be to home on the trail. We had to walk a little on roads, and there were some white blazes painted on signs, guardrails and the support …

After dinner we headed back home. We pulled up a chair under the tree next to the coach and enjoyed the evening. Cheryl did some research so we could better plan our trip for tomorrow and I worked on the blog for a while. After a few mosquito bites, we decided it was time to head inside.

Since we were hoping to see the Blue Ridge Parkway we thought about just driving ...

Ever since arriving at Outdoor Mission Camp this summer I have been given opportunities to learn new skills to help me be a better letter. The hard-skills so far had been learning how to raft down the Nantahala River which is whitewater with class 3-4 rapids. I have whitewater rafted before, but never have I guided and I can say it is so much fun. My abs and arms did not like the guiding aspect and reminded me that I am no where ...

... forward. It felt so rewarding to reach the top of the bald, even though I couldn't see anything but clouds. I was actually glad to have climbed it in that weather, because I've seen the amazing views from other mountains and balds, but, even when the weather's been bad when climbing a mountain, I've never had to battle it like that. I yelled, "Screw you, trail!" on top of the bald and laughed on the way down, my sense of accomplishment warming me against the wind and ...
