... in the past and indeed now it appears to be a thriving town.

We were struck by just now civilised it all was, just like many towns across southern Europe in fact. Here is the town centre as a place for people to gather, to promenade, to sit and talk. A place where children could play, with pedal cars and bikes provided. It was a wonderful place to just sit and take it all in.

... me an audio guide but part of me just wants to hear the tour in Romanian(even though I won't understand much of it, if any). There is just something cool about that-how often can you tell your friends that you ended up on a tour in Romanian-it certainly would have been an experience.

The line for the English tour is in the shade and the Romanian one is out in the sun. Mihai(at least I am pretty sure it's him-the whole conversation takes part in Romanian) decides ...

... town was the huge Peles Castle built in the late 1800s. It was built lower down on the mountainside and overlooked a huge wide grassy meadow below. It had hundreds of sculptures with amazing detail, turrets complete with cannons, and a garden and courtyard in front. I quite enjoyed this place! When we were done there, we continued our train ride to Brasov, where we are planning on spending two nights.

... roadside. It was probably the most eclectic collection of statues I had ever seen. I wish I had been able to stop and take pictures, but once again, it was far too awkward with me not being the driver.

I was also told that the small buildings all along the drive (at just about every crossroad) were small chapels. I had noticed that religion was very much a part of many Romanians' everyday life. Bogdan made a sign of the cross every time he passed a church as we drove ...

... Sunset Tower built by Vlad Tepes with a
museum of himself inside the top and the old ruines of some Princely
Houses and of a Turkish Bath inside a park surrounded by antic walls.
The beautiful
city has a nice central square with statues, a lot of flowers and some
pedestrian street with bars and restaurants full of elegant youngsters
relaxing and drinking cocktails and soft drinks.
