The best Jamaican Trip ever..

I've found that when most people travel to Jamaica they only experience a fraction of what this beautiful small island has to offer. I challenge all to discover the real Jamaica beyond tourist resorts. How might you ask?? Through a trusted guided tour guide.

Check "climb the falls" off our bucket list

... it would not have been a good idea for him to try it. As it was, when we first saw the falls from the beach I questioned the wisdom of doing the falls myself with my bad knee, but then I figured I hadn’t been working out at the gym every day for the last six weeks to pass this up. I decided as long as I watched my footing and balanced myself I should be fine. Mom, Jarod, Dan, Jessica and I started it together. After the first leg of the falls Mom figured she’d done ...

Health Fair!

... Falls. Somehow It took us hours to get there. We all stopped for hair cuts for some reason and then went shopping for new toilet. Dunn's river is a water fall that you hike up from a beach. We got there pretty late so we didn't have anytime to hang out at the beach. We climbed the river once and then went into Ochi where the rest of the nurses from the clinic were staying. We hung out had jelly coconut and finnaly got ...

Port of Call for the big cruise ship

Ocho is an interesting city, divided by a straight line, on one side (from the center to the port), relatively safe area day and night, upscale boutique, restaurants and on the other side, the chaos and not so safe area. There are a few hundreds meters of beachfront.

Trelawney

... Our guide told us it had something to do with the warm water and the mix of fresh water from the Martha Brae river and the salty ocean water. On Thursday, we took a relaxing bamboo rafting on the Martha Brae river, where our guide Sewell pointed out the local flora and fauna. He was also pretty talented, and used a single knife to carve interesting patterns out of the local plants. We also did a self ...

Jamaica - from Negril to Port Antonio

... soursop and lemon tea leaves, stuffing them in our pockets and telling us how to prepare them (no milk and a lick of sugar). They were sure to cure all our ailments. As we were heading past the lily pond another guide with 200 (!!) tourists came up the steps. They were coming from their cruise ship in Montego Bay - some 50 miles away. In fact, by the time we left the parking ...

Exploring Inland

... cleaning supervisor and cook all rolled into one. She also arranged for a local driver, Patrick, aka "Sonics", to tour us around the area. While at Ashton, we were to experience many of Mrs. Binns' homemade specialties: "rung dun" (fish in coconut milk),"food" (yam, potato and plantain), "escovitch fish" cooked in a spicy sauce and "festival" which were similar to corn fritters. On our first day, we spent the afternoon in Black River. It was our ...

I Came. I Saw. I LEFT!

This was a horrible nasty little place I hope to never see again. When you walk down the street, it is filthy and taxi drivers nag at you and then throw insults when you refuse to take a taxi. I Came. I Saw. I LEFT! One almost saving feature of this hideous place was swimming in the water, but even that turned south when I felt what I believe to be a sewer pipe under my feet.
