      Antalya

Our free day in Antalya, yeah! We got up and had a relatively leisurely breakfast for us, 8am. After a bit of organising we headed off to explore the old city of Antalya which is about a 10 minute walk from our hotel. The weather is stunningly good - clear blue skies and sunshine - so everyone is in a good frame of mind and happy to be wandering around outside. The old town was established between 138-159 BC (just ...

      Pamukkale

We left the hotel this morning to head to the white terraces of Pamukkale. By the way, I won the battle with the hotel - yes, one up for the tourist! The white terraces at Pemukkale are made of white calcium carbonate, or travertine, a kind of limestone. They are spectacular to look at as they are white cliffs gleaming in the sunshine and visible from a long way away. They are a bit of an oddity in ...

... or something!! I walked down the road away from the salon and tried to comb it straight. Then I put my sunnies on and was so glad I wouldn't be bumping into anyone I knew! Another good laugh and story! The guy was actually an ok cutter, it was just the mousse, trying to make it curly, cutting it too short and the lack of a common language. It cost me the grand sum of $15!!!!

... non stop on his two mobile phones, in between drinking tea, eating, smoking and talking to people on the bus. At one stage he had no hands on the wheel! He came close to having a punch-up with another man at a cafe stop and seemed even more rattled and erratic after that. It didn't help that we had front row seats and could see it all. We both fell sleep in the end which was probably just as well!

Saklikent Gorge - Could stay here for a few days

We had a morning tea stop in a town called Egirdir which was on the shores of a Lake by the same name. It's a really big apple growing area, and it was market day when we stopped there so Helena, Kirsty and I went for a wander through the market and I decided to buy an apple for us each. Not having any Turkish, and thinking this was a local market and not a tourist place, i poured all my small change into my hand, took 3 apples from a stall and showed the lady my ...
