... one week in Cali I headed to the Pacific Coast, they had another bank holiday, another Saint or something (Colombia has a ridiculous amount of festival days each year) so with a three day weekend, Diana decided to come with me to La Barra on the Pacific Coast, I was looking forward to the company and I had been put in touch with Meyer, a friend of Adolfo, who owned a hostel on the beach in La Barra. What could be better? So off we went in the dawn of Saturday ...

4th September .. Today saw us take a chiva to El Valle which is located about an hour away from Bahia Solano. A chiva is an open sided lorry type taxi. The road was pretty terrible and we were all pretty grateful to get to the hostel even though it is fair to say it was nothing to write home about. We had to share our room with roaches and ants. Checking in for the flight was a simple process and the flight itself on ...

... guide. Unfortunately we only caught one fish so it was a good thing we had more food. After lunch our Colombian guide scaled a coconut tree and knocked a heap down for us to drink and eat. Later that day when we got back to the hostel we saw some more whales straight out front.

The next day was a chill out day as there wasn't much surf and it was raining. We were pretty lucky with the weather really, as the Choco region is one of the wettest areas on earth. Some parts get ...

    Pacifico de Colombia

... little groms were paying off.

We got into a pretty good routine in El Valle. Wake up and surf, go have breakfast, then lounge in the hammock and read during the heat of the day, before paddling back out for a sunset surf. Could have just stayed there for 4 months, but we decided to try our luck further south. So after about a week there we headed by boat to Nuqui. We kind of got ripped off on the fare down to Nuqui, but it seemed like ...
