... our ice cream, we started walking along the road. We asked a toothless, spitting old gentleman for our way and he sent up roughly in the direction of the planet Mars, we walked for ages along the road and visited little stalls with shabby guitars, but it wasn't what we were looking for. Finally someone gave us the right info, we walked all the way back and then some more, and after nightfall we found the shop of Luque's most famous luthier! Well I say shop, but apart from a little ...
... weekend in the city, and we are all having a lot of fun before we go out to our sites. I was probably too quick to say that I didn't like Asuncion the first time I came to visit. Since then, I've seen other areas of the city that are much nicer than the dirtier, grittier places I first saw. Also, the first time I came in was on Sunday, and the city has a completely ...
Asuncion, Paraguay chriswooley... covered in grease. That is pretty much the Paraguayan diet. I have not eaten a legitimate green vegetable since I have been here. It is great heavy, high caloric food if you are working out in the fields all day, but when you sit in class for 8 hours a day it makes you queasy and fat. I also don't like that all my clothes are stretching because of being hung dry, but i guess it works out since I am eating fatty food. Yesterday going into ...
Asuncion, Paraguay chriswooley... practice a lot, and then practice more at home. I've actually learned quite a bit in just the last 2 days and can sufficiently introduce myself and tell you I want to milk your cow - Añami se nde vaka, in case you were wondering. Yesterday was the first day of technical training where we actually did any work. We split up into groups and my group dug a trash pit and cut and split bamboo to build a fence ...
Guarambare, Paraguay chriswooley... he trained, and watched them flourish in their new leadership roll. The most recent round of community computer classes is being managed solely by them. They recently provided their first computer repair services to a private party, in addition to replacing a power supply in one of the computers in the lab (which Adam blew up accidentally!). As a parting gift they graphically designed and manufactured 3 beautiful certificates ...
Asuncion, Paraguay almparaguay... again and again and again. so what should have been a 4 hour trip turned into a 9 hour trip. So we finally arived at the cuevas´house. slept the night with mosquitos because I forgot my bug spray and then the next day we when on the river, I got to help Denise make lunch on the boat, doing it in the day is easier, I didn´t get quite as motion sick but boy was it hot!. Then we did teaching at the village and saw a few people, one of ...
Asuncion, Paraguay nicostoetter... seeing where the impressive modern National Congress building sits directly opposite a deprived, wooden shanty town, which sits below the flood plain of the Bahia de Asuncion (like many new builkd UK homes I guess, only wooden). I did not fancy my chances in the favelas, particularly dressed as a stereotypical gringo - shorts and pick polo shirt, plus rucksack. Easy prey. I thought I would tackle the walk back to the Bus Terminal and stopped halway for a coffee. Despite having "Nescafe ...
