... the latest theory that it may have served as a calendar may have credence. We stopped at a Tongan cemetery. Unlike the Samoans who placed their dead near their homes, these people use cemeteries. We took some pictures at Captain Cooks Landing place. Later, we went to the blowholes at Mapu a Vaea. Of course, every place frequented by tourists comes complete with vendors of all types. Mom is getting much better at looking only. We stopped to check ...

Alas, my camera was jammed somehow. I must have been too impatient and pushed too ...

... shrieks were invariably followed by a giggle fit, always the sign of a nervous Helen! While she implored me not to pull a "Harold Bishop" and get swept off by the waves never to be seen again (for a few years at least!), I attempted to diffuse her by suggesting there was no chance I would get harmed given the angle of the waves and how they were impacting the shore some 20 metres or so from me. As I then posed with arms cockily outstretched to welcome the onslaught of the next ...

... accommodation. Tony, an 'eccentric' (euphemism for 'grumpy, irrational and racist old man with a strong accent') English chap from Salford who had emigrated to Tonga decades previously, decided he would drive us to the beach himself. It was during this journey that we were subjected to 25 minutes of 'Tony time', whereby he used the opportunity of a captive audience to wax lyrical about all the things in his life that caused him aggravation. This hit list ranged from ...
