We continued along the coast road looking for a spot for the night. Traffic was horresdous and very slow going. I wanted to turn around and head back into France. Kim on the other hand was all smiles as she loves Italy. Finally found one in the cute little fishing village of Riva Ligure ...
Riva Liguria, Liguria, Italy darrenhough74After brekkie it was onto Menton which is a lovely little town just before the Italian border. Menton is a much more down to earth place than its neighbours and more our scene. We found a park right on the beach and went for a wander and took in sum much needed sun. Next stop Italia!!
Menton, Provence, France darrenhough74... and not campervan parking friendly. We found a picture perfect stop just after Monte Carlo at the top of a hill overlooking the Med. We had the place to ourselves so we russelled up some brekkie in the sun which was lovely, so much so we were in t-shirts!!!
Monte-Carlo, Monaco darrenhough74... wine bottle and then we thought they were off on the trail, but no they got in the car and drove on!
At the end of the gorge we joined the road towards Cannes, which was route Napoleon, orginially created by him as a pass through the mountains...very windy. Our destination for the evening was Grasse where we found a good park overlooking the city lights and our first view of the Med.
Grasse, Provence, France darrenhough74Cannes is not as glamrous as we thought it would be, it still has all the fancy smancy stores along the beach, but there were definitely no red carpets rolled out when we were there. We did a day trip to St-Tropez, its was the end of a hge sailing competitiona and tons of ...
Cannes, Provence, France sofenjon... experience at Sababini's was very personable! The eight course meal was superb! We both chose the steak and lobster, otherwise referred to as surf and turf! The service was fantastic! Sabatini's provided a more intimate and personable experience! We were glad we arrived with an apetite. Otherwise, the eight courses would've been too much. The champagne carried us through dinner until the cappuccino's. <br ...
Monte-Carlo, Monaco ricknelsie... Only a few steps for now, we turned the corner to see the steps of repentance in front of us. A zig zag of roughly 400 vertical steps, in the spring sunshine with our jackets on and our suddenly very very heavy backpacks on. It took us roughly half an hour a couple of liters of sweat each and a few breaks along the way, but it was worth it to reach our Olive grove campsite heaven.
Menton, Provence, France dinoshona... the hill, taking a leaf out of the locals book, thumbing for a lift. After about 5 cars a nice French man stopped and gave us a lift to the station. David and Scot can now claim they have hitch hiked in Europe. On arriving in Monaco there were people everywhere so we decided to seperate and meet back at the station later in the Day. David stayed near the marina and checked out the boats between the practice and qualifying sessions while Scot climbed up to the Palace. Scot ...
Menton, France eurogrovers... into the town and let me leave my bag. I sat in the reception area for a while and organised all the things that i wanted to send home. I hope that my pack feels much lighter now as i sent my heavy guide books, a buscuit tin and some of my summery clothes home as i'm off to the uk next and i dont think that it is very hot there. Please post a comment, it doesn't have to be profound and i'm off to explore the city.
Menton, France dannielleWhen I opened the curtains of our stateroom early in the morning, I could'nt believe my eyes! What a beautiful picture revealed itself: the quaint little harbour town of Villefranche nestling on the hills above the little harbour. What a beautiful place! I ...
