This was a good idea. This was a VERY good idea. After a relaxing night at the Ramada in Mumbai, I headed to Goa yesterday - again, with a hangover. That's twice I've done the right from the airport to the beach here with a hangover. Apparently, I don't learn. I arrived around 5.30 and from the moment I walked to the reception, I knew I'd made the right decision. Hang the expense (although, comparatively, I got a very good deal), hang the fact that I might not be able to pay the credit card o...
Canacona, Goa, India cleaversMy last day. 5 weeks ago, this day seemed so far away and now that I'm all checked in, packed and ready to go, I can't believe how quickly it's come around. Managed to hook up with the Canadian girls Monica and Jaclyn yesterday which was lovely; they came and spent the day with me yesterday by the pool here as they are staying in Palolem. It was nice to have some company. I think they enjoyed experiencing the high life for a day! It's certainly been a lovely last three days and despite the ex...
Canacona, Goa, India cleaversWe've been keeping busy day by day and realise that today is our "1 month in India anniversary, 6/6/6. eerie...... Recent events, hmmmm, Mel hiffed Ant's laptop onto the soft marble floor after receiving another mystery electric shock. That's the third one we have had, always from oddball places, we have decided to refrain from using the sketchy hot water heater thingy in the bathroom,,, it will remain "OFF" Went on a scrotum torturing day trip on the scooter to Cotigao wildlife park, where w...

After finishing our stay at Parikrma School in Bangalore, we flew from Bangalore to Goa. We started out by staying in a hotel right on the beach, for Rs.250 (~$6) a night for a very basic room. Turns out, we caused something of an argument in the internet cafe, and Goa turned real sketchy real quick. So we decided to stay somewhere safer. This ended up being the Intercontinental Resort in Goa, which had a great deal as it was monsoon season. This place was freaking amaaaaazing. We went from f...

... books are definatley in the wrong, altough there was definatley no need to bring the herbal essences shampoo as they sell it (along with half the stock of any boots in england) in the little hole in the wall next door! typical! not really doing much We think we may head to monkey island tonight (you have to wait till the tide is out else its a bit of a swim) as long as it doesnt resemble something out of King Kong its all good by me!!!! xxxxx
Palolem, Goa, India melimeli... My journey started out interestingly, as I couldn't wait to get out of the manic city, Mumbai (Bombay). Besides the fact that it's shockingly expensive (cheapest rm i could find was $150/night for the most basic accommodations), it had nothing to offer besides traffic and noisy polluted streets. The hotel I stayed at was built in 1948 and it literally hasn't been touched (upgraded that is) ever since. At least the staff was nice and the ...
Palolem Beach, Goa, India marlatrips... I suspect he'd find it a lot easier than I did, for a number of reasons. The exquisite Goan beach resort of Palolem seems to become exceptionally blue at this time of year. I'd like to be able to report that this is due to the cloudlessness of the sky, or the crystal clarity of the water. Unfortunately it isn't. It's due to the fact that any idyllic beach-top bamboo hut which hasn't been dismantled for the off-season, has instead been weather-proofed with a covering ...
Palolem, India ianrAfter being a little rough to the travel agencies I found out where a local bus to Gourgon (kind of a suburb) from where I wanted to start my hitchhiking. The local buses is very funny in India, because they are so crowded and more because the don't stop but just slow down. So a 20 people crowd is on the same time running in the side trying to jump in at the small the narrow doors. I had something to eat in one of these street kitchens and then went to do some walking ...
Panji, India fiscarlos... the King of Spices), Chilli and Clove. By the way, Mango is considered the king of fruit in India and Papaya the queen of fruit. We were also shown how Cashewnuts (one of Goa's big enterprises) are harvested from their juicy fruit and how the fruit is distilled to produce a strong whisky called Cashew Feni. Three distillations of this stuff, which is highly illegal and idiotic, produces alcohol at 98% purity (no thanks! Enough ...
