Was supposed to travel to London and on to New York the same day -- but the flight was held on the ground in Lusaka for two hours -- so had to overnight in London. Apparently, some gentle fool tried to take a suitcase full of grass Lusaka to london -- and all the bags had to be taken off and sniffed before departure. never did hear what happened to the owner of the bag!
Lusaka, Zambia bosleyjohnI had a sleepin till 0800am this morning and after a hearty breakfast, we travelled back to Mfuwe airport. Today, I was travelling on a charter, operated by Pride of Africa on behalf of Proflight. I sat right behind the pilot, so it felt like I was flying the plane! Although it was fairly cloudy, the 90 minute flight to Lusaka was smooth. On arrival in Lusaka, I was again met by Timothy and another collegue from World Vision Zambia and taken to the Inter-Continental Hotel. Nyunda, the staff m...
Lusaka, Zambia john_lengacher31 July 2005 In typical Wadzi form I decide that going to Zambia, a neighbouring country cannot be a major issue so I rather unenthusiastically enquire about the cost of air tickets to and fro. Who would bargain with the whole airline industry deciding to go belly up - the South Africans on strike and the Zimbabweans failing to find fuel! I tell you it's truly a personal affront - they knew I was coming. Anyway the beauty is that I took the picturesque route by bus, a bus which is a step up f...

... but as we drove up we saw a BA plane taxiing to the terminal building. WE checked in with the BA office as Kirsty was travelling as a 'sky solo' traveller which meant she was chaperoned both ends but could only be handed over to a nominated person. We were told just to meet her at arrivals. Through the window we saw Kirsty walking across the runway as the last one off. We waited about half an hour before she appeared, signed for her and we were on the road by 7am for the long ...
Lusaka, Zambia malcolmcollis... to be too cross with us. Left the park at lunchtime to the local shopping centre and had a light lunch (me garlic snails & Judi something foreign!) - reasonably priced. I must say the price of everything so far is not as high as we were led to believe but certainly dearer than South Africa. An hour in the internet café then back to camp to then return to the park late afternoon until 6pm. Back at camp and up with the roof tent & then wander across to reception to pay ...
Kafue, Zambia malcolmcollis... center. It had a book store and a movie theater and a restaurant that served sushi. Heck, it even had a Subway. It was teeming with ex-pats and travelers. On to the market. Congested streets took us to the fringe of a very busy and crowded market. I was dropped off with Eric, Peter and a serious brick of cash. We set a brisk pace for the market asking directions along the way. Everyone could point ...
Lusaka, Zambia jmckerricher... also just formed a farming cooperative which should open up the possibility of government subsidised fertilizer. This would offset the 300,000 Kwocha (US$60) price tag for a 50 kg bag, allowing more crops to be grown and reducing the need to sell charcoal for food. The charcoal comes from large trees felled in an unsustainable manner in the surrounding forests and all over southern Zambia. Bags of it we have seen for on the roadside ever since we ...
Lusaka, Zambia therhodesies... comments from Jim and Andre, and we finished about 3:00 pm. We took a group photo right after the last session. One couple had to leave immediately for home; the others would spend the night and leave early the next morning. The Pringles, who live in Zambia, invited several of us to drive over to a neighboring lodge, the Protea Safari Lodge, to have a drink and a look around. They had originally hoped that we could have the seminars in this lodge, but it ...
Lusaka, Zambia joelmeeker... Within seconds of sitting down, my bony behind was already feeling the tremendous discomfort that accompanies being perched upon a cold, stone floor and suddenly a substantial part of my being hoped this wouldn’t take long.

We were instructed to bow our heads and close our eyes. Again we obliged, and Dr. Mulonde then commenced proceedings with a prayer. Whether or not this was a strictly Christian oration wasn’t apparent, although she had explained beforehand that ...
Lusaka, Zambia dandowler... staying, which was a couple hours away. Well, what could I do, this was Africa, we could not wait for it and I had to trust this would all unfold accordingly. We spent the morning (it was about 6AM) at a fenced in shopping plaza whose gates were guarded with men with rifles. We had a western type breakfast and I proceeded to shop for bargains for a few things to get me through until my clothes arrived. I did not know IF they would or when ...
