We got up early
the next day and quickly realised no one else does. The old town markets are
not open and shops in the new town are mainly closed too. Slowly things came
alive, as the day warmed up with a gorgeous blue sky and a light sea breeze. We
wandered down to the port, lots of it closed off as it is such an important
international hub. The beach was quite industrial, not pretty for swimming.
Lots of hills, some nice park areas and we ...
... maybe they are over here. Now I notice a bunch of locals looking at me with interest, No one spoke English, no signs are in English. I look over the wall, and there is my group way down over yonder getting in a bus. ****!
I start running down the narrow streets hoping I was going in the right direction, trusting my judgment, passing all the stalls, sellers and beggars like some kind of movie and break out into a square. See the ships in the distance and head towards ...
... mint tea is claimed to be good for. On the way back to town we looked at the Atlantic rollers where the young king of Morocco, an absolute monarch of whom it appears everyone is very proud, uses a jet ski in the summer when the ocean has warmed up a touch. A few of our brave souls rode some very gentle camels round a small circle to the cheers of the rest of us. So back to our 5 star hotel, El Minzah. Looks like it may be surviving on the ...
Tangier, Morocco daviddx... sand, and the smell of kebabs passed through our minds. In fact Morocco was more different than we expected. The streets of Tangier's Medina are all small and windy, the Arabic text bizarre, the streets buzzing, and the Berber population strong. Berber's are an indigenous population of Morocco, believed to be descendants of ancient Egypt. They wear a pointy hooded cloak around town, which gives Morocco a Starwars type feel ...
Tangier, Morocco arikandcharisBuenas Amigos Mios, Hey guys, just thought I would give you a follow up on our trip to Marruecos (Morocco). Wow, talk about one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life! You can´t even imagine how people live there! The poverty was just crazy. It was so sad at times to see some of the kids or those who were living on the streets in the Medina (town center). The world has so much to teach you if you just listen. I´ve been finding myself ...
Tangier, Morocco heisler7... are in a country where 99% of people are Muslim. Despite extensive Westernisation, Morocco remains a largely conservative Muslim society. This means a high degree of modesty is demanded of both sexes in dress and behaviour. For us this means covering up our shoulders, upper arms and chest areas and we need to wear long trousers or skirts. We dont need to wear the head dress but we have decided to go all Lawrence Of Arabia and buy one of the long pixie-like ...
Tangier, Morocco inoursuitcase... toured Toumani and Bassekou in Australia wangles her way in to see them backstage. Essaouira has a completely different feel to the other parts of Morocco we have visited so far - the architecture is different, it's more laid back, seafood is prevalent, and it's cool and windy. After the fetival we drive north along the Atlantic coast. It's made up of long, sandy, windswept beaches, interspersed with petrochemical complexes and towns. We spend one night at Oualidia, which is ...

Asilah, Morocco mig.qwerty... said he. "We'll get a map and find our own way around. It will be no problem," we said. He continued to castigate us for that idea. At this point Sneeze ceased to pay attention to him. She stopped a guy passing by with "Excuse me, do you know where I can get a map?" The guy smiled and told her to go to such and such a kiosk across the way. Our tour guide wanna-be grew red-faced upon hearing this exchange. "Lady what are you ...
Tangier, Morocco cutiebanana... rug shop, it was a store that was 4 stories tall, huge, but there was a fantastic view at the top of the whole Casba. Then we had a carpet demonstration, the guy talking to us was something out of a movie, a glass eye, the whole 9 yards. Quite entertaining, but we were smart enough not to try and buy one. We t hen went to the herbalist, which was fascinating, he went through a bunch ...
