... come south, it's jackets and scarves weather. Morning coffee is accompanied by Advocaat in a small waffle case and a cream puff! Consequently we went back the next day :-) A canal boat ride was a great way to see the sights of the city, especially the old market buildings which date from Medieval times. At one stage Ghent was bigger than Paris! Where our boat left from used to be the sea port. I can't imagine access to the sea from there but the guidebooks say it is so. Similarly, ...

... street urinals around the place. No sooner did Jason say I need to go for a whiz that I spotted one. Literally a little wall you stand behind and go for a wees. Very out in the open but just gives you enough discretion to do your business. And I guess the main reason was to keep the building walls and streets clean! New Zealand could most certainly use these! Anyway, Jason did use it and I couldn't handle it. I just thought it looked so funny but a guy was waiting ...

... We talked and laughed for a while and since it was pretty empty we became friends with the waiter. I asked him where to get good fries and he told me this soul food place down the street. Then he must have gone to lunch or something because a little while later he comes back and handed us a huge bag of fries! I don't think a group of tourists has ever been so happy. They were gone in seconds. It was delicious, and probably ...
