... we made a discovery. Those scary stone creatures on the walls of old buildings - they aren't all gargoyles! According to a catalogue we got, a gargoyle is designed to drain water from a roof top, while the scary creatures who don't also function as drainage are called chimeras. Fact of the day. Yay! Next stop was the Arc de Triomphe. While we were there, we saw a military ceremony - presumably part of D Day ...

Staying at an apartment through Airbnb, rather than at a hostel room with a lady coughing all night, was one of the best decisions I've made. Hostels are great for meeting people and for getting advice on things to see, but neither of the two really applied to me quite yet. I was fine traveling alone and seeing exactly what I wanted to see. It was not until I would get to Barcelona that I would appreciate having someone to enjoy the days with.
