... it would be like to have our city overtaken. Our walk then continued on down the Champs Elysses, Paris's road of luxury. We annoyed the sales people at Louis Vuitton by going inside "just to look around" and then enjoyed an overpriced 10 euro white beer apiece at Fouquet's, an apparent French celebrity hot spot (no celebrities spotted). Went to the two big department stores printemps and galleries Lafayette. Bought a really expensive dress. Went up to the rooftop bar where it was raining unfortunately. Next door was the Conciergerie, a palace that was turned into a prison for the French Revolution and where Marie-Antoinette was held before she was taken to the guillotine. They had replicas of the cells displayed and depending on how much money you had, the cells ranged from straw and a bucket to a nice bed and table.

Paris was alive with visitors as our arrival coincided with The French Open and the celebrations of the D Day Landing in Normandy. Security was high, with the ever presence of armed soldiers patrolling the streets and main attractions. As in the past, our first organised activity in Paris was a walking tour.
