The case of the disappearing donkey

On my last evening in Saumur I ended up socialising at a couple of other motorhomes and didn't get back to my van until around midnight. Then it was very hot and the upshot was a disturbed night's sleep which meant I didn't feel too wonderful the next morning. Thankfully the drive to Rochefort en Terre was fairly short because I struggled to concentrate and I was very aware that I was potentially dangerous. I then struggled to ...

... amethyst ring that caught my eye, as I do. On the walk back to the van after dinner, there was a local Celtic band playing in the square in front of the church, where the market had been and there were a group of people dancing - old style folk dancing to this beautiful music. It was a lovely ending to the evening. To top it off, it's a full moon tonight and as the cloud has disappeared, the moon is easy to see. Happy ...

... three courses and wine. Slow poached egg (cooked for an hour at 50 degrees) with caramelised onions. Surprising but very good. Ocean trout for main and cake, blueberries and vanilla cream for dessert. Good thing we're riding so far. Tomorrow is forecast to be raining all day. If that turns out to be true, we may abandon the bikes and visit a few places in the van. If we're riding, we will cover about 48 kms tomorrow - provided the guide doesn't get lost ...

We were ready to set off by 9am today. Unfortunately, my wish for no pain when I first got on the bike today was unfulfilled. Yes, it was a bit unrealistic, but surely I can hope? Perhaps tomorrow. It's forecast to be 37degrees today and we have a big day of riding planned today. Initially we were doing close to 60kms and that included a short ferry ride. Turns out however, that the ferry doesn't run until tomorrow so we will be riding a bit ...

... fresh which will be lovely as its meant to be quite warm later today. Apparently it's unseasonably warm here in Brittany this year, and in particular, this week so we're told to expect temperatures of 30-31 degrees. The ride starts out well, we have some rolling uphill struggle and downhills, not too steep and then we're on the canal path into Reddon - very flat for the next 20 kms. We arrive in Reddon at 11am and we take time ...
