... We did walk around the ramparts and see wonderful views and we did eat a reasonable pizza for lunch but we also resisted the tempation of the Ghost House and the souvenir shops. I can only hope that some of the tourist euros are going towards the fortifications' preservation.

The river runs like a madman
... the barge driver slowing so the massive bow wave doesnt throw us onto the bank. And me hugging the bank till grounding is a pottential thing. it works. It is a bit hairy as the bow wave slows our speed. Then as the bows pass you get sucked towards him and the tide goes out a foot. Then you get scooted along its length and spat out the other end.
