Amboise is in a good central location for visiting the chateaux of the Loire River valley. The Hotel Bellevue is in a wonderful location for sightseeing around Amboise. We had a very nice room with a terrace that we shared with 4 other rooms. Breakfast was good, the staff was friendly and they had a nice bar/restaurant. We found the hotel listed in the Rick Steves Guide book.

    Amboise

Wednesday 9/17 - We took the TGV from Annecy to Paris and then got on another train to Amboise. We arrived in Amboise around 3:00. The Hotel Bellevue is about a 10 - 12 minute walk from the train station. After checking in we dropped our bags and headed into town to familiarize ourselves with the downtown area. Along the way we stopped at the TI …

We set off at 7.00 am, after a night of storms, but the weather, while a little overcast, was dry and mild. We rode along the side of the river, before stopping for breakfast at a little patisserie at Montlouis. The next leg to Amboise was through the vineyards, and slightly inland from the river, with some good sharp climbs. The chateau at Amboise was again spectacular, set right in the middle of the town. We hadn't seen many other cyclists on our ride, but they were ...

... all the people coming up behind me. Anyway, we got to the gate, all the other passengers were on, John was riding his bike down the platform, I was running bloodied and bruised from the escalator ride, and the uniformed staff just turned their backs on us. Another train person said we had to be there at least 2 mins before departure. Around we went, got our tickets changed to the next train and we headed off, an hour later. In the scheme of things, an hour delay on a six week holiday ...

A few quick messages late yesterday and it turned out that Alex and Val were nearby with their friends Jussara and John. It was easier to decide on dinner than it was to select a restaurant. The hotel one was great but fully booked but found space for the six of us.

Disobeying one of the women in my life

When I am travelling, the list of women I strictly obey, increases from one to two. Yesterday she changed from a very proper English lady to a smooth chic mademoiselle. In between there was some horrible English gent. The French lady was doing so well and I was really enjoying listening to her when she made me think twice or even three times

    I have a ...
