Amboise is in a good central location for visiting the chateaux of the Loire River valley. The Hotel Bellevue is in a wonderful location for sightseeing around Amboise. We had a very nice room with a terrace that we shared with 4 other rooms. Breakfast was good, the staff was friendly and they had a nice bar/restaurant. We found the hotel listed in the Rick Steves Guide book.

Wednesday 9/17 - We took the TGV from Annecy to Paris and then got on another train to Amboise. We arrived in Amboise around 3:00. The Hotel Bellevue is about a 10 - 12 minute walk from the train station. After checking in we dropped our bags and headed into town to familiarize ourselves with the downtown area. Along the way we stopped at the TI …

... Chateau de Chenonceau. This one was Mummy's favourite. It looked like the Disneyland castle! After walking through a beautiful grove, Ben noticed 2 statutes that looked Egyptian. As well as having a castle that was beautiful (home to 5 French Queens), it had excellent gardens with beautiful fountains. Ben and Jon had fun running through the gardens. After all this, it was finally time to drive to our hotel in Tours for a well earned ...

Arriving at Chinon, a beautiful town where we stayed for one night during our trip two years ago, Brad made his way to the restaurant where we had eaten when we first met Sally and David. Unfortunately we were too late for lunch and it was closing. Oh dear!!! We walked around the corner and found a busy Italian ...

... and 282 fireplaces. Francis I reigned for 31 years, during which he only spent 32 days in total at Chambord!. It was his son Henry II, and Louis XIV who were both fond of hunting that made it look the way it is today. Certainly a spot for photographers and Ivor had a wonderful time as did hundreds of other keen ‘snappers’.

We hopped back on the bus en-route to the 100 acre property Chateau de Beauregard. This ...

    Day 50 –

I woke up early today in order to see my companions off on the next stage of their pilgrimage. At this point, they have walked over 1600km, and they have 800km more ahead of them. Today, they will climb a large mountain into Spain, and I wish them the best of luck. I hugged them and said an inadequate goodbye. I often find that, in person, my words fail me when I need them the most. So, later in the day, I ...
