    Off to England

Off to England! After a very satisfying breakfast, we packed up realizing we had to be to the ferry 90 minutes before departure. SO, I hired the mad taxi driver Mary Anne after I shoved all our luggage back into the car quite haphazardly. Off she sped past joggers, bikers, only to arrive at the queue for automobiles, and we waited and waited for and hour and a half, getting more and more anxious, and ****** off! Why aren't ...

Slept quite well and made a decision to try and get back. P&O no help whatsoever. Received email asking me to contact them by phone to rebook. The same number that I held on to for 30 minutes last night! We are on our own! (Apart from Bob and Mary who are giving us information). 7am I am sitting outside the campsite reception (only place to get slow wifi). I find a ferry leaving Dieppe at 12.30 arriving Newhaven ...

We found cycle ways through the bush and all over the town and there are huge horse stables here and we stopped to watch a guy lunging his horse which look great. Kerry is slowly getting used to driving on ...

Looking back on our last full week in France, we are very glad that we booked the beachside accommodation at Quend plage for our last long stay. Amidst our two long day trips we had a few shorter excursions close to home and lots of beach time.

On Monday we visited the Commonwealth Cemetery of Etaples. Etaples was an important hub in WWI as it had multiple rail lines to connect to the fighting, and seaside access to connect to England. Apart from its use as ...

    Ypres and Abbeyville

A travel blog entry by fredpedler68 on May 12, 2015

Today we drove south to the town of Ypres which was almost totally destroyed in WW1. It is the site of the Mennen Gate War memorial that was developed by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. It is quite a structure on the main road on the entrance to the city centre. The City has been totally rebuilt including the cathedral and the city buildings. In fact we enjoyed the atmosphere of the town ...
