... at how soft the snow was- just like Fairy floss. We drove on towards Grenoble and then Gap where we were staying the night. We drove through the most amazing picturesque scenery. Towering mountains and old fortresses either side as we moved along the valleys. Just stunning.

The hotel we stayed in was in a good location with the host being very friendly, he reminded us of Gabriel Gate. Gap was a gorgeous little town easily explored by foot from just outside the hotel.

At the Montdauphin station it was just another shuttle bus and a walk up the icy mountain to reach our destination. We were the lucky ones however. Others took 24-36 hours to reach our accommodation. ... all day in this fabulous country I finally emerge onto the Route Napoleon just north of Gap. My road has taken me high up above the spectacular Lac du Sautet. It's a fast run now over to the unfortunately named town of Corps.

I book in to the Hotel de la Poste where I order a simple evening meal which turns out to be quite the opposite. But I will save that tale for tomorrow.

... note brought a rye smile to my face. As I navigated the one way system out of the old town the sound of the bike echoed off the old stone walls. Soon onto the open road, traffic was quiet and there was a cool chill in the air of the clear mountain morning, I was lucky as it was an almost cloudless sky which would result in great views and pictures from the summit. Soon the turn off came to Col de la Bonette - 2802m - and I took a photo of the sign which highlighted it as ...
