    Barcelona to Nice

    ... taxi ride to our hotel while the Driver smoked his cigar, a happy little French chap with a sense of humour put us in a better mood.

    Nice cool shower then stroll down Avenue De Republique for dinner and a lovely Vanilla Gelato to finish off the evening. Still light at 9pm which throws the body clock out a bit

    ... involving cars happens every now and then. At a stretch I may have thought it was part of France. As it turns out, it's an independent(ish) micro state on the southern French coast, right next to where I'm staying in Nice. How could I not visit?

    ... boats - huge and more like small ships than boats. I did think that the fun fair that was along the waterfront was a little tacky and un-Monagesque! However the palace is still the same and we were lucky enough to see the changing of the guard which was a bit of pomp and ceremony. It's 4pm now and we are back on board having a quick rest before caviar and champers at 6pm followed by dinner and dancing! I can't stand all this ...

    ... boat into shore just before 9am to see the first races. There was a Porsche race first then Formula Renault. I was in time for both. I didn't however get there in time to secure a good spot. For that I would've had to arrive days in advance. I only bought the general admission ticket which allows you up on the hill in a standing area. The trouble is that people come with their deck chairs and hammer them in early.
