... is that everything closes for lunch from 12 to 2. They are serious on their lunchtime here, and when its raining and there's not much sightseeing to do in the small towns, well, lets just say we were lucky to have enough wine to get us through it. We also tried a proper french dinner in the town of Beaune, a 4 course meal for 12 Euros. Caity got Rabbit and Tom got Veal, or so we thought. We still aren't sure ...
Beaune, Burgundy, France tommcatt... the car to make our way to the hotel. We checked in and the lady was less than pleased to help us. She was not very friendly to say the least. Either way, we got up to our room and dropped our stuff before heading out for dinner. It was only about a 15 minute walk to the center of the city from our hotel. I think we spent 20 minutes once in the square trying to find a restaurant with something for everyone. Eventually we decided on the first place we looked at... go ...
Beaune, Bourgogne, France t.rosile... been travelling another line and wasn't going to stop at where I needed to be. The hostel never bothered to tell me that the bus deviates from line 4 after 2000. This stop however according to the bus route map was only a street away from where I needed to be. Phew! A little sweat on the brow there.
Then I spent an hour looking for some place to eat after being directed by the receptionist that there was Pizza 'just across the street'. Being at an intersection; there were ...
Dijon, Burgundy, France tonkin... France Passion" of this trip. Barely had we rolled to a halt at the Domaine Michel Guitton when a lady of the establishment was out to meet and greet with the offer of a 'degustation'. We accepted and, once inside, were presented with a list. First was Petit Chablis at 8eu a bottle. Next was Chablis at 10eu followed by three others going over the 30eu mark. We asked to sample the 10eu bottle, duly produced from a cool box. very nice, we said - we'll have ...
Beaune, Burgundy, France pennipistle... slipped behind the wheel caressing the gearstick lovingly and cooing words of enouragement
to the little pooper. With a softness usually only reserved for these special moments in the
shower, he took hold of the gearstick engaged first and proceeded to kick the ***** out of
four gears with the cry of Corporal Jones "They don't like it up'em". With a strong tail
wind, three bodies lent forward, and on a down slope the old girl knockered out ...
Dijon, Burgundy, France minipooper... from Troyes to Dijon and just beyond to Beaune seemed, as I'd feared it would, to go on forever. There was some dramatic weather with torrential rain just north of Dijon, which at least took the heat out of the day for a while - it had been very very hot in the depths of the afternoon... But at last we pulled into Beaune and soon spotted a 'Camping' sign; it was easy to track the site down. 'Cent Vignes' is municipally ...
Dijon, France mig.qwerty... wasn't that great, and Little Europe sounds a bit strange. Definately see the Atomium, which I feel bad that I didn't see. I guess if you have to and want to go ahead and see Mannekin ****, if you like that kinda thing. He is the symbol of Brussels, but to me, he's not that fantastic. Also there's a really nice shopping district that is really ritsy and cool; Brussels supposedly has great shopping, so if you could head down there just to look around that would be ...
Dijon, France swisherd... staying for several more weeks, because not only do they crack me up, but chatting with them for an hour or so every night should do wonders for my speaking and listening skills. This evening, the Franco-Anglo club is putting on a play called "The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged) without Hamlet" Sounds pretty fun, plus it's free, so that should keep me busy tonight! :) Kate
