From beautiful Brugge we drove south west to Ypres. Along the way we stopped at some of the war memorials to the fallen soldiers. All this area is part of Flanders. We stopped at the Tyne Cot cemetery. It is the biggest commonwealth memorial. It was quite surreal looking at the walls knowing every name on the wall represents a soldier whose body was never found or identified.

The last thing before heading home was a 'lovely' French meal, where we were reacquainted with the stinky cheese of 6 months ago. All I can say is that the food wasn't great.....

I also noticed that my few pictures are all pictures of roofs and bell towers and such, and after a while I figured it out: I didn't want to see the ugliness of the life at ground level, too many people, too many cars, not enough space, nothing pretty. Everything's grey, everything's sad, no-one smiles. To escape for a moment, I had to look up and look at the sky...

Raining!!!! Pack up and leave Offranville early. Then long drive to Lille to hand in rental car (not the easiest thing to do at Gare de Lille – there's no signs at all to say where to go or what to do, and couldn’t find any on line info either – so lucky we left plenty of time to drive in circles round the station and city for a fair while.....). Uneventful Eurostar trip, marred at the end by UK Customs & Immigration deciding to re-processes all passengers ...
