Inter Hotel Vientiane

... time in Vientiane was spent trying to sort out our Thai visa - this included an early morning trip to the Thai embassy (we got there before 8am) and were 17 in the queue. Filled in passport forms and handed them in - and told to come back at 1pm the next day.
Trouble was our tour was leaving at 9.30am by public bus the next day - so if we wanted these visas - we had to catch up our tour.

... is the concrete Arc de Triumph take-off. From afar it looks good, a bit smaller and more jungly than the french one. But as you get closer you notice that it is literally a 7 story block of concrete. In fact, the plaque on the wall of the structure says: "...from a closer distance, it appears even less impressive, like a monster of concrete." A harsh, but honest assessment of the main attraction in this city.

When I stepped aboard the overnight bus from Pakse to Vientiane I immediately realized how nice it was compared to the other overnighters I took while in Vietnam. In the bus there is a narrow isle separating two rows of bunk beds along each side of the bus, each bed with neatly folded clean and comfy pillows and blankets.
