We woke at 04:00, were at breakfast by 04:45, very thoughtfully the hotel provides a continental breakfast at this ungodly hour, and were driving to Shannon airport by 05:15. We gave a ride to another Clan member, Liz Krause, and dropped her at the terminal before returning the rental car at 06:00. We had allowed time for the return but it went smoothly so we had finished and been given a ride to the terminal by 06:10, giving us a long wait there before our 08:45 flight ...

Firstly, apologies to those of you who keep in touch with me per internet as I have had a little difficulty in that area. My hotel on the outskirts of Colombo has internet but, despite my best attempts, I cannot get my netbook to interact with it. Usually I find it impossible to sleep on a flight (unless I've been upgraded to business) but whether I have either overcome this or I was that knackered I managed to get some sleep here and there (albeit at about an hour at a time). So, hopefully when I ...

We accompanied our starters with a Cool Bottle of Sauvignon Blanc 2012 (Reserva) –Chile origin. It matched well with what we had. On the palate, citric, with excellent acidity and notes of bananas. It had long agreeable finish. The bottle costs QR 225 (€46.00)

Highly recommended for the main course is the Italian wine ...

... on shower, breakfast, and to hit a local shopping mall as the temperature outside (which by the way is 10 degrees hotter than Dubai) makes walking around town virtually impossible. Certainly hot enough to melt a few international football teams in 2022, well done Mr Blatter another fine decision! Just as I am coming to the end of my rant about Fifa's corruption to a rather disinterested Karen, I am interrupted by a strange sound from outside. It sounds like a cross between ...
