Nonetheless, we were exhausted and relieved to make it to Cartagena at last the next day (quite early on, as our anchorage was only about three hours away). The sun was bright and hot, the sky blue, there were palm trees all around and there's both a museum and a concert hall right next to the marina.
We'd chosen a great week to arrive, as Cartagena was partway through its annual festival ...
And the teaching? I love it. Even my one class of 7 year old devil-children is growing on me. I consider myself lucky when the others talk about their kids' classes and of biting, scratching, bleeding and even barking, when all I've had to contend with (apart from the incessant 101 decibel din) are bouncing erasers and little Paola who won't utter a word.
When I'm back in my West Side Story retreat I've noticed I talk to myself less now, happy for the peace.
